I've just bought one of these and I quite like it. What problems can i expect in the future?

  • I'm not big on their version of android, battery is on 40% after 4 hours of use. Can't preselect numbers for dual sim (unlike Motorola) and just hate how it imports all ycontacts from gmail, it basically displays anyone who you've had an email correspondence with. Regardless whether you've created them in contacts or not.

Nothing major but considering I've had pure android or something very close to it it's enough to flog the phone and get an upgrade, however minor it is.

The battery is the biggest let down for me.

  • I've had an OPO for ages and for the most part I really enjoy Cyanogenmod and the hardware is fine.

I've had a bit of a read up on the OPT and realised that there's no official CM release and that the Oxygen OS or whatever it's called OP's in-house android OS) is buggy and still on Lollipop.

Personally, unless I could get CM13 or some other non-OP rom I'd probably avoid it.

  • My Moto X Play is failing to update to Marshmallow, probably because I rooted it and installed TWRP. Restoring stock recovery didn't sort it so I thought I'd just flash the ROM manually.

Coming from Nexus I didn't realise what a faff it is to just download a stock ROM. Only found one site hosting it and that's some crappy file host where the free download is so slow that it will take nine hours to download.

  • I'm still on lollipop now so that's not going to matter that much. Also read about it being buggy but again to have dual sim and £125 less I could probably live with that as well.

  • anyone on here got sony smartwatch 3?

  • I'm running the marshmallow beta on my p8. My battery seems alright.

  • Had mine for a good six month (I think) and it's worse than any phone I've ever had. That includes iPhones.

  • @EB how are you getting on with your Z5?

Getting drawn into this phone, dual sim + micro SD card = perfect phone for me I think.

  • Got the Nexus 5x to replace my old Moto G, very impressed so far.

  • £375 for a Nexus 6P or £249 for the OnePlus 2. My last three phones have all been dual sim.

OnePlusX ?? All the features, and I like because it actually fits in a pocket ;-)

  • So after much frustration with my Nexus5 battery life running to about half a day. Spent an age online trying to resolve the issue trying all sorts as alot of people had the same issue WiFi showing as being the issue using upto 40%. Turns it was the latest update to Accuweather which now I've removed it battery is now like a spring chicken and get through the day with at least 80%

  • How long have you had it? Have you found any lag, and is the camera fast enough to open/in use?

I'm seriously thinking about pushing the button before Friday to get the free Chromecast, as I want one anyway.

  • I'm sure somewhere on stock android there is an option on how the USB connection should be treated with one of the options being "Charge only". I can't find the bloody thing though (I thought it was under Developer Options).

Any suggestions where it may be?

  • Since Friday. No lag. Camera works very well although I haven't extensively tested it.

It just fits in my pocket and is very lightweight. I've no idea if it's better than equivalent phones but I'm very happy with it. The free Chromecast was awesome too (I think Chromecasts are great and use the mirroring function all the time for demoing stuff at work, clients love it).

  • Been using the oukitel k4000 a few days, seems great for what I need.

  • Any recent not to buy a 5X from eBay? Y'know, seeing as it's £74 cheaper and all:

I know I wouldn't have a Google warranty but I think buy it now purchases on eBay are covered by consumer protection laws so in theory I should be covered.

  • Ta. So far all the lag/bad stuff comments seem to be about early or faulty phones or people with the Facebook app installed, so it doesn't really seem to be a problem.

  • The seller...

    Business seller information
    eglobalcentral-uk
    Alan Hung
Unit F, 24/F Golden Sun Centre
59-67 Bonham Strand West, Sheung Wan
    default default
    香港

Once you add the customs charges it won't be cheaper, will also be a grey import asian version.

  • Aha. Thanks. I fell for the 'Item Location: United Kingdom' bit. And the other bit which says ' The order will be ready for dispatch in our UK warehouse within 1 business day'.

HK based sellers just seem to get cheekier and cheekier on eBay.

  • Although it does say:

    1. The order will be ready for dispatch in our UK warehouse within 1 business day. Then, it will be dispatched locally by DPD/Royal Mail with tracking information provided to customers after receiving payment of 100% of the order amount. No Import tax/ Duty are liable to customers within the UK.
  • I'm guessing this gets updated each day so the seller is always away...

This seller is currently away until 11 Feb, 2016. If you make a purchase, there may be a delay in processing your order.

  • I was more thinking that if duty does get charged that would be grounds for a paypal dispute as it's not as described.

Whether or not that potential faff is worth £70 is another matter.

  • That aside I don't want a grey import because if anything goes wrong presumably you'd be screwed if the retailer wouldn't help. And I suspect @Clockwise is right about the always away thing.

  • Best Phablet?

My beloved Sony Z- Ultra has a crack in the screen. I took a massive tumble on the ice, and it got slight cracked. Enough to make the screen unusable.

I've ordered replacement glass. Which I may be able to fit myself. The alternative is to buy a New one for £250. This thing really does serve as both a tablet and a phone for me. So I dont mind spending out. Just wondered if there was anything better out there.
