Thanks @TurtleRecall and @M_V; as I said, never worked with a mid fork mount. Interesting solutions to double stays that aren't at a good angle. I think I would just invest in a few Berthoud alu stays and mount them on the SKS fenders like I did with one of my bikes, it worked a charm.

Fitting mudguards is one thing I am always happy to pay a shop to do. Not worth the hassle.

I did think about it, but I've done literally every other part of this build myself (apart from setting the crown race) and it would've felt like cheating to have let someone else do this bit.

we have seen your mudguard fitting skills ;)

Exactly. The one time I did do it, it was a disgrace.

Berthoud alu stays on sks
Squabs used to go on about this - I suspect he was actually recommending something you had done- but when I asked about how a single fat alu stay works with double brackets made for draw bolts designed for thinner steel struts (double) he was reticent to go any further.
Did you just ignore the upper bracket on on the mudguard? And how did you attach the stays to the brackets?
Genuinely interested...

I drilled out and removed the stainless brackets and replaced them with the Berthoud stays. That bike currently has no fenders, but the pictures show one that I was lucky enough to find blank fenders for along with the alu stays. The front used a daruma bolt.
ah, sorry: I just used the one strut, I was surprised how well it supported the fender, but I guess it makes sense in that it's thicker and more importantly, one piece. (SKS has too many parts)

So, the changing of the front derailleur worked perfectly. No dramas with shifting.

I'm sure it's been discussed but BLB classic fenders (the ones without the sides), all show no go?http://www.bricklanebikes.co.uk/blb-classic-alloy-fenders-matt-black

You will get much more side spray with those.

Look at how narrow those are, they're just for show

Thought as much, probably much better than nothing but may as well save up for some PDWs. Hopefully they'll be discounted come summer.

SKS are plenty good too

Trying to mash practical with being a tart, impossible some say but thanks I'll take a look at some in-store.

Anyone fitted PDWs to a bike with discs? I mean, the fittings they come with assume there will be caliper rim brakes to help fix them to the bridge/fork crown. I don't want to use the big Z bracket on the rear without a caliper brake and not sure what fittings to fix the front to the crown.
-

Actually, I think I may have solved it. I just need the below for the rear and then some bolts and probably nylock nuts to fit.

Which size of PDW? I was just wondering the same, but saw that the 45mm PDWs come with slightly different fitting hardware that assumes no calliper brakes.

In that link, the picture of the unfitted mudguards has the z-bracket but the fitted picture shows them on a disc braked bike with seemingly no retention at the bridge. Unless they have a tapped hole underneath the brake bridge and a hole in the mudguard, but I'd never be able to do that neatly enough.
Realised when taking this it's only the top stay I've arced. The lower one is just bent.
