Anyone know anything about disc brakes?

On the Superstar pads, didn't someone have issues with them separating from the backing plate?

I like the shimano ones.

Usually just £30 for the Shimano one, less if you shop around.

Because Lezyne pumps screw onto the valve, you pump the tyre up, unscrew the pump and it unscrews the valve core with it.

I believe the Superstar brake pad de-lamination incident occurred a few years ago, as there was a long thread about it, over on the singletrack forum .

From what I can gather, they're fine now and it was a very early batch.

The little button on the side of the Flex Hose just releases the pressure inside the hose, it's not a shortcut to avoid screwing the hose on the valve.

@TurtleRecall I suffer that problem sometimes with continental inner tubes with removable valve cores, but still haven't found a better pump (flex hose is a great feature for me). Just avoid tightening too much, and carry a valve core tool just in case

The posts I've just found are on the Singletrack forum and are from a while back. Reviews seem to rate the pads now.

Yeah, I think the problem was about 7-8 years ago.

I think it happened to @gabes mate on the Welsh C2C last year too, but I might be getting mixed up...

I'm sure if you dig deep enough all pad providers will have had the occasional QC fubar.

FWIW I take spare pads with me on every off road ride since that time at (old) Swinely...

Heck, I take spare brakes to Bike Park Wales.

The button is designed to prevent the valve core from being unwound by the pressure in the hose :)

Design does not always equal function, those pesky valve cores are just begging for the freedom of the hardcore, rubble and who knows what/who buried beneath our decking.

Not on the welsh C2C, but it has happened to a mate, and to me, in my case, both sets of pads, front and rear, the compound separated from the pad backing, leaving ZERO braking. I rode into a hedge.

Superstar never replied to my email about it. Will never buy their shit again.

The included set of finned resin pads for my XTR trail brakes separated from their backing, Merlin sent out replacement pads as soon as they saw a pic. Only had this problem once. Never had a problem with Superstar pads.

Or use a spoke key to tighten up valve cores - seems to work ok.
