Interested by Bruce attempt. I like his method. Be good to see how he goes.

181w is sustainable, if you're strong.

All attempts are interesting. I still think his first day was over enthusiastic.
He will have to throw in a few big days though if he plans to fly from Oz, he'll be losing at least a day coming back to the UK.

Yeah, but can't blame him. Endorphins are great.
All are interesting, but I find his approach most personally interesting.

You just like him because he's a roadie scumbag like yourself as opposed to some weird audax freak :)

Interesting un-abridged Jack Thurston interview with Idai Makaya on Steve's support team. Lifted from YACF
"As some will know I've been covering the year record on The Bike Show podcast and will be returning to the subject imminently.
Among the interviews I've done is one with Idai from Steve's team, on 31 December. It was by phone and pretty long. The poor quality of the phone audio means that only edited excerpts will make it into the podcast. But given the interest on the forum in Steve's well being and his plan for the remainder of his record attempt, and the fact that his team have not been prioritising communications with the outside world (perhaps understandable, given the amount of other tasks they have to do), I thought it might help if I shared a fuller recording of our conversation.
You can find it here (beware, it runs to 33 minutes!)

Right, I've updated https://goo.gl/RBHtiS - Bruce has now been added, and all detail is up to date, according to Strava, the UMCA haven't yet updated their data.
I'm currently looking to find the day by day play for the women's record so that I can get it set up. Does anyone know if the daily breakdown on http://www.tributetobillie.co.uk/ is correct, or just what was managed on the tribute rides? Does anyone have a good source for these distances?
-
• #1337
There are some differences between you data and that of the UMCA on their pages. I mentioned it over in the thread on yacf. I didn't get as far as writing something to extract the UMCA data from the page but can have a go if you want...

Searvogel should be in the pub shortly.

Massive congratulations to him. Amazing achievement. Didn't think he'd last the distance after his first couple of weeks. Then he seemed to power through a low point a few months back as well. Srs bsns.

Searvogel takes the record. Lying down.

@Greenbank found it, cheers! (more at YACF)
I've just started a sheet for the Women's Record at https://goo.gl/lYClYG and updated the Men's to 22/12/2015 with UMCA data (a full update, which fixes the errors taht had crept in somewhere) at https://goo.gl/RBHtiS

you data
MrDrem may be meticulous with this, but surely this comparison is going a bit too far.

Aren't the new attempt cumulative distances expressed in km, rather than miles?
28562*(365/98) = 106378 projected distance at day 365.Ignore:
Durrr- OK, I'm thick - I just realised 97 days 21hrs is ride time, not calendar time. -

Following some of the discussions on YACF, I've just been and added a new set of calculations, and a new graph.
Hope you enjoy rolling average speeds, that is, average speed ridden over the last 5/7/14 days. I've only graphed the 5 day average, but if people would like the others adding, I'm happy to do so.

Excellent, thanks.
Fuck me YACF can be hard work some times. Reminds me why I sacked it off last year, only to be suckered back in by this very topic. #whywhywhy
The big one for me is whether he can increase riding time whilst also reducing stopped time (not necessarily 1:1 ratio but it needs to be close). He needs to ride for longer (since he's not shown he can ride faster) but he can't risk sacrificing much more sleep time as that won't be sustainable. If there's a way of logging/charting the daily elapsed time too that would be fantastic (I know Strava has it but it's a ballache to get from Strava).

I think that jo is pulling out the GPX tracks from Strava (which requires a premium account that I don't have, and have no intention of getting), which would allow him to do something like that. His charting is stunning, but I quite understand why he's going to cut down on it.
Steve had also started letting the garmin run on whilst he slept if he had crossed midnight, which I suspect would mess up the elapsed time details and calculations, but I've not looked. I might do if I ever get a few hours with nothing to do.
I'm still quietly quite chuffed with mine, and impressed with what you can do with simply inputting 2 numbers per rider per day.

You sure? How much sleep is he getting? How much does he 'need'?

Hi Graham, that's Strava session time, which isn't particularly helpful, but it's the figure on his website page. I could put up riding time, energy and avg watts too, if that was helpful?
