It's suitable for rim brakes, even has the 'safety line' feature so it tells you when it's fucked without exploding. There's no problem using a disc hub in a rim-braked wheel.

  • It seems although you've found your answer but after about 4 years hard use/abuse and owning 3; I stand strongly by Minirig and their products even though the price has since gone up upon introducing Bluetooth.
Solidly built with impressive sound quality, absurd battery life, loud, capable of daisy chaining infinitely, Bluetooth and able to send out charge current for recharging phone/iPod etc, also insanely good customer service (have had two faults over the years - repaired free of charge with a 3-4 day turn around along with new cables included)

  • impressive sound quality

I know it's all relative but I find it odd when people say things like this about small speakers. They might be loud but all the volume is in the speech frequencies (or a weird hollow pseudo bass if it's Bose) and I find them horrible to listen to.

  • Great, cheers.

  • The minirig is designed a bit differently from a lot of portable speakers, the driver is a bit bigger and it actually gives reasonable bass (not the boomy bose version).

The thread of the development is an interesting read (although seems to have got a lot longer since I last looked) http://forum.speakerplans.com/minirig_topic38574.html

  • Anyone have a clue where to get some of these machined?

  • where to get some of these machined?

Your friendly local CNC shop, pick a few from google and go round and see who seems friendliest. Price quotes can easily vary 3:1 depending on whether they actually want to do them, but even the cheapest is likely to be off-putting if you only need one set.

  • @mdcc_tester thanks for the reply. I'll give it a go (searching completely blindly) and see if it can be done for a reasonable price. I've seen that you have designed and had various custom bits made for you. Do you happen to have any recommendations?

  • Do you happen to have any recommendations?

My recommendation is as above - find your local shop. If you send a drawing to somebody, they will quote for making it exactly as per the drawing. If you have a face to face chat with the machinist, he may have suggestions of how to simplify the design without affecting the function which can radically cut the cost.

To take a simple example, could you live without the rebates for the screw heads? Ditching those counterbores would literally halve the price of that component, because without them it could be milled in one set up.

  • Appreciate your time & input @mdcc_tester. Before even starting to look, I imagine this will require much more time/effort/money than to make it worthwhile. Hopefully this isn't the case. We'll see and thanks again.

  • Any reason for clamp-on, rather than having a local framebuilder braze some mounts on directly?

  • A mate of mine has a right hand crank arm, and can't remove the pedal. The pedal thread turns freely in the crank arm when you try to undo it, but it doesn't undo, just spins. I guess it's fucked, but if there anything that can be done to fix it?

  • This is pertinent to me as well as I'm looking for a Bluetooth speaker to provide music/quality radio streaming sound in a small room. Portable is a bonus. Having mains power is helpful but can always put a USB charger in permanently I guess if needs be. Is there a real, appreciable advantage in the £150+ offerings vs this £35 option? I am no audiophile, but I want something more sonically satisfying than a minirig. Any recommendations much appreciated.

  • Smash with hammer.

  • Didn't want to be the only person fighting thus corner so thank you.

I was going to post the graph of the freq response from the original minirigs but can't find a high enough res copy.

That original thread that Davey made on speakerplans speaks for itself and goes to show that the product was made from a sound techs point of view and that sound quality ranked higher than volume.

Have a read and if somehow you're in doubt and in London then id be more than happy to demo my lot.

  • Out of the ones I've used I'd rate sound quality as

    Minirig
    Cambridge audio go
    Bose sound link mini
Pure Jaw (or JoJo or similar)
    Bose sound link colour
    JBL Flip
    JBL clip

The jbl were way down compared to the others, but they are noticeably smaller.

The Bose sound link mini is probably best for the size. Minirig best overall. I probably wouldn't have bought the Bluetooth minirig at the price it's at if I hadn't first bought the wired one (about eighty quid at the time) a few years ago and used it.

If portable is just a bonus though I'd be tempted to go for a small amp and bookshelf speakers which will be better than them all.

  • Wasn't a personal dig, don't worry! I've heard a minirig (only outside, on its own) and it was about what could be expected from the driver size (which is bigger than most). I've been reading through the thread, so thanks for the link.

  • Just wanted to double check some maths...

    • I have credit card with 0% for 24 months.
    • I use it for purchases for 1 month and stop.
    • I have a direct debit paying off 4.17% of the total each month.

After 24 months it will be paid off, correct?

    24 x 4.17 = 100.08

  • I have agreed to buy something listed on ebay (not bike related) outside of ebay, but still using paypal.
The seller has sent me an invoice. Does paypal still have a goods/services vs personal billing thing where if you pay for goods rather than personaly you are protected by paypal?
There is nothing on the invoice to distinguish it is goods or personal other than the description of the item.

  • Anyone want to buy a 30 ft inflatable staypuft marshmallow man? Asking for a friend.

  • There is no friend.

    Only Zuul.

  • Is the amount you're paying a % of the total or a set amount which is 4.17% of the total now?

If it's an ongoing 4.17% you'll be paying a diminishing amount each month rather than paying it off as calculated.

Also, be aware that most credit cards require a minimum payment which is usually 5% of the outstanding balance each month. Your 4.17% would mean you receive a penalty charge each month.

  • I think that makes me Vinz Clortho.
