  • I seem to have worn down the bodies of some Keo Classics sufficiently so that when I try to unclip with new cleats the cleat jams and I can't unclip. Is this normal?

Not my picture, but mine look like these:

  • @hugo7

    Exactly this, on both points.

Find out the minimum repayment amount (probably 5%, as @Soul says) and pay this off in month one. Divide the remainder by 23 then set up the direct debit to pay off this amount for 23 months.

Also, I'm not sure how they calculate 24 months. For example, if it was issued on 1st Dec 2015, do you get 0% interest until 1st Dec 2017? Your first bill will most likely arrive on 1st Jan, with a due date of 1st Feb, so your 24 monthly payments will exceed the 24 month 0% interest period, maybe. Worth investigating.

  • Is the amount you're paying a % of the total or a set amount which is 4.17% of the total now?

That is a good point. I'll check.

The min is 2.5% or £5, whichever is greater. But the DD will always take at least the min repayment so there shouldn't be a penalty.

Basically I'm looking to use a new credit card predominantly as a short term loan for a series of purchases to avoid dipping into savings, but then going forward as a way to help me save/take advantage of interest.

As a starting point I just wanted to check my logic - assuming I just spent a load of £s in month 1, but no more in months 2-25.

  • http://www.bretwhissel.net/cgi-bin/amortize very useful calculator for this sort of thing

  • Awesome. Thanks.

    Amazing.

    I'm tempted now.

  • It weighs a fucking ton. We've currently got it squeezed into a cupboard at the old flat and need rid of it (along with Gatsby) by the 30th.

Think we paid 600 to buy it second hand about 2 years ago for that event. It's been bagged up since then. We were offered the chance to rent it from another supplier for 400 but thought we'd get some more use out of it so a purchase was the better bet. Needless to say we didn't get any more use out of it.

  • a way to help me save/take advantage of interest.

Then pay back the minimum 2.5%, and save the rest (of the 4% that you intended to pay) into an interest earning account.

Then pay off the balance at the end of the interest free term with what you have saved.

    Spend the interest on sweets.

  • It should be pretty simple:

Amount spent / 24 = Monthly direct debit amount to pay

The only thing to consider is if that amount falls below the minimum payment amount. It sounds like it isn't.

If i were you, i'd set up the direct debit with your bank rather than through the card provider as they usually only allow minimum statement balance or total balance as the payment options and neither are what you want.

  • Sweets; plural? Fat chance.

  • Cheers for this. I'm confused now, because I've heard minirigs before and never been particularly impressed by them, and certainly didn't expect them to be that price! Could I have seen an earlier, less impressive incarnation? I think I need to go into a shop and listen to some. The Bose soundlink mini currently probably topping the list for me based purely on looks and reviews.

  • The earlier version sounds similar to the current version.

They all partly depend on where you're listening to them and how they're positioned. Nothing sounds that great outdoors, the Bose I found sounds a bit boomy when placed near a wall whereas that suits the minirig.

I'd say there's a definite difference between a £35 and a £100 speaker. Between the various £100-£150 it's more personal preference and added features.

Personally I didn't like the Soundlink Mini as it had a proprietary mains charger which is a ballache when travelling (think the new version may have changed this). This made no difference to my girlfriend who has one though, in fact having a charging cradle is probably preferable as it mainly stays at home, and she much prefers the look to the minirig.

I liked the Minirig as it has a long battery life and Apt-X compatibility. If you don't have an Apt-X source though then that isn't going to make any difference, etc.

  • Any reason for clamp-on, rather than having a local framebuilder braze some mounts on directly?

That and getting a V brake plate are the 2 other options. The latter looks horrible and the first is more 'invasive'. I'm not even sure I want a ss freewheel bike. Clamp-ons on the other hand look slick imho and take just a minute or two to get on/off the bike.

  • Price isn't worth it, just get them welded on.

  • Some time ago I posted a question about a new Campag Veloce bottom bracket not feeling consistent through the pedal stroke. Fairly subtly but noticeably, part of the stroke feels what I can only describe as sticky or gloopy.
So I finally removed the chain and gave it a spin and it seems to spin smoothly enough except it is very quick to settle in one position, as though there is relatively significant weight to a part of the chainset. I tried this on another bike and although it does settle at one position, it's not as noticeable.
I don't really know how unbalanced chainsets are and how much they differ, but definitely does not feel right. It's all 10spd new Veloce.
So is bottom bracket at fault, if so what can be wrong?

  • Is it possible to repair / replace dented aluminium down tubes? I've been offered an alu frame I really want but it has a big ole dent in the downtube...can someone in the uk replace the dt?

  • Is it possible to repair / replace dented aluminium down tubes?

Not economically, most frames need heat treatment after welding. Aluminium frames which are not in a ridable condition are currently worth about 35p/kg

  • Thank you. Still...if there anyone in the uk who would do it?

  • anyone in the uk who would do it?

There are a couple of results on google

  • Formula hubs - who stocks spare parts... like their freehubs?

  • @epilepticfridgeboy is the bearing seated properly on the axle? It could be fractionally squinted, else one of the BB cups warped?

  • Formula hubs - who stocks spare parts

    Who even stocks the hubs?

  • Specialised use them and seem to sell the freehubs as spare parts - but that means Internet order and I'm not 100pc sure which freehub to get.

  • I am thinking about building a new jig. Cheapest place to buy 120x40 and 40X40 extruded alu profiles in the UK inc shipping? It would be smart being able to buy off-cuts for less money.

  • You couldn't stay away from frame-building for very long then :-)
