Great news.
Oh and post a photo of that rear cable seat tube detail! -

Has exposed wiring in flat, restores vintage bicycle first. Priorities correct!
Excellent looking frame, would look amazing riding along the Bondi beach front in the sunshine.

The wiring is actually inside steel conduit, there used to be a wall which those switch-plates were in/on, now they hang in mid-air, supported by said conduit (which was inside the now demolished wall).
Now where are these helpful links to NOS 8 speed, downtube shifter 7400 groupsets that everyone promised me?

I have a NOS seatpost - However, from memory, it's 27.0mm so you would need a shim.
I do have a box of 74xx parts also, nothing NOS but lots in excellent order. I can have a look next time I'm at my storage.

That would be great, I'll try to measure the post tonight but it's hard to spot a 0.02mm difference with my vernier calipers.

Not NOS but looks in fairly good condition from the very average photos. Has the wrong big ring and the hubs are wrong but gets you most of the way there.
also NOS crankset on german ebay http://www.ebay.de/itm/NOS-NIB-Shimano-Dura-Ace-7400-7402-Kurbelsatz-170mm-53-42-Bip-Pace-170mm-NEU-/201446985262?hash=item2ee72d0e2e:g:ozIAAOSwo0JWGqQO
same seller has NOS freewheel too -

What do we think to 600/tricolour:
I can get all of those items in the next couple of weeks from a chap in the US for a very reasonable price.

I'd need a front mech, and of course wheels and cassette/chain.
-
• #110
Aesthetically it'll work really well.
But this deserves better than Shimano 600.

Get it rolling, collect fancier bits when possible

But this deserves better than Shimano 600.
I simply can't find NOS Dura Ace 7400, I can find this.
-
• #113
Also, those parts I can find tend to be spendy: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dura-Ace-stem-Shimano-7400-120mm-hidden-bolt-with-tools-Vintage-Bicycle-NOS-/171974562867?hash=item280a7b9433:g:ZsUAAOSw5ZBWJAIn

I love 600 tricolour but possibly bias because I used to own a set. Still it is nice stuff.
-
• #115
Me too. I've owned and assembled a few sets and the 1st gen tricolore remain my favourite vintage groupset.

• #116
Anyone know if the 6400-RD (non-windowed jockey-wheel cage) will work with the 8 speed block (as it was 7 speed)?

another vote for the 600 fwiw. bird in the hand and all that
-
• #118
I just think it deserves a modern group, just use a non-groupset crank!

see me about this please,

In German: What's the rush, does this frame deserve the rush? To people with patience comes Dura Ace.

It is true that this bike is unlikely to be ridden until next year, however I am impatient. I might get the 600 now (it's ~£180 for the whole NOS group) and collect DA as it comes up.
I'd prefer down tube shifters on this as I far prefer the non-sti brake levers, also.

600 is a great group. Rode it with Simplex DT shifters and 105 levers.

Neil, he's another source for peachy clean 600 groupo, crackin wheelset as well

Will do. Also, if anyone needs a Phil Wood Klein BB do shout- I will shortly have one, surplus to requirements.
