  • Thanks, wasn't sure if that was best design :)

Anything I should watch to stop frame getting damaged?

  • I need to replace the bearings in my disc wheel (currently a gritty set of SRS 6001).
I'll only be using it in fair weather TT's - Therefore would there be much/any benefit in getting a set of bearings without rubber seals?

  • I've asked about this before, the watt savings from losing the shields is pretty miniscule. I'd stick with 2RS, cos at some point you will ride it in the wet, you will forget to flush the bearings and it will be seized the next time you ride.

  • Reminisce? You're getting nostalgic about bearing seals?

  • Not really, no. It's more tricky to set the jaws on the crank/spider in such a way that they keep purchase enough to pull but don't slip off or scratch/gouge the spider. I ended up using some electrical tape to hold it all together once I had them sited and had some tension. Then you increase the pressure by tightening the spindle until the crank starts to move. The central spindle will push against the BB axle. You may need to consider threading a bolt into the end of the BB axle for the spindle to push against so as to not damage the BB.

  • Ah yeah, that makes sense, tx ^_^

Beginners mistake of not taking the washer off...could I not have done that with a trash crank...?

    Sods law :P

  • No need for a bearing puller. Put the bolt back in with about 4-5mm left before it starts to tighten and take the bike for a ride. The crank will loosen and the bolt will prevent it from falling off.

  • No need for a bearing puller. Put the bolt back in with about 4-5mm left before it starts to tighten and take the bike for a ride. The crank will self-destruct.

    ftfy

  • If you want to keep the crank, do not do this.

  • Do. Not. Fucking. Do. That!

    @JWestland don't do it! don't!

  • Why? Seriously? As soon as you feel any play in the crank you stop and walk the bike home.

  • @edscoble @Simba I read about that method....Westie likes her teeth so it's not for me :)

  • I see fireworks are on sale. Strap a few to the BB.

  • As soon as you feel any play, it's too late. The BB axle is much harder than the cranks. To work it loose like that you will deform the square taper. It needs to be pulled straight off the axle.

  • This would do less damage

  • You wanna risk it?

Best to do it properly, some LBS will have a tools that designed to rethread the thread bigger to allow a bigger crank extractor to fit, I've done that on a dozen of bicycles before.

  • polite request as i don't want to start a whole thread for it - i'm doing a project with @mands and @Cazakstan among others. does anyone have a go pro we could borrow for about a week?

  • @ioreka Just occurred to me I might be able to get one for you to borrow, pester me about it so I don't forget!

  • I'm after an antique ladies ring.

Any thoughts on places in London to look? (apart from Camden Passage and that market in Notting Hill).

  • I've got one I don't use much. I'm in North London.

  • Chapel Street market near edgeware Road? Few second hand jewellers in there

  • I'm after an antique ladies ring.

  • Alfies Antique Market - lots of independent stalls and way cheaper than the vintage places on Hatton Gardens.

I can take delivery of the go-pro, I am in N7.
Heading to N6 tonight 7pm ish to get some Highgate honey. PM me if you can do tonight.

  • Serious answer: Hatton Garden

  • I'm after an antique ladies ring.

Just wondering if there's any more...
