I'm trying to back up a hudl mk1 so I can do a full factory reset as it continues to spaz and has been trying to download an update for close to 9 months.
To me the logical way to do this is to plug it into my laptop, open it via my computer, and copy the files.
However, every time I try and do this it Calculates the time required to copy the files and then it says it can't copy them and ejects the hudl without telling me.
Any ideas?
I'm now trying to think what actually needs backing up. But as it's not mine I would sooner back up everything.

Most stuff is / can be backed up to cloud. Does the mkq have an SD card slot for other files?
As for app data, such as progress in games, you are probably SoL unless it is rooted in which case Titanium Backup is your friend.
Even if not rooted, check Titanium, it can still do some stuff.

Titanium backup is great for backing up if you're rooted.
For my last load of backing stuff up I got one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00MWT6DSK plug directly into the micro-USB port and copied stuff over using the phone. Seemed to be quicker than copying to computer via USB.

Not rooted unfortunately.
I ve heard mention of titanium backup. Might give that a go.
Yes there's an ex memory card slot, so maybe I'll see what space there is in that.
Plugging in a USB might be a good idea. I've got one of those little cables from a USB to micro USB plus a program to run it.
The biggest pain is the hudl automatically ejecting itself once it fails. My laptop is a bit slow, so it makes every try very long.

How to remove google apps from phone pls?
i don't need google play music or books (or currents...), so, er, how? -
• #16508
You can disable them from the relevant app info screen, will need to be rooted to uninstall I think.

Again, titanium backup. Think you need to be rooted.

Thanks for the confirmation!

Anyone bought the new Nexus yet? Reports please...
-

Reviews are starting to drop. Ars Technica reviewed both and it's very positive. The 5x is more appealing to me but there's nowt wrong with the OG model so I'll stick with it until it breaks again.
The camera looks very good. Shame the 6p is using such a hot processor though. Hopefully the snapdragon 820 fixes that.
Also, can we please have slightly thicker phones with more battery!

I'm considering switching, one reason is that I got the nexus 5 when it came out and have had 2 replacements under warranty. This means I have a very good condition one to sell but am now out of warranty.
If I can flog mine for net £200 I will buy the 5x I think.

Be interested to see how much it goes for, ebay prices seem to be all over the shop. I could be tempted with taking this route and buying a 5x when I am next in the US as they seem considerably cheaper there (about £150 cheaper than the UK version).
I'd like to see a 6p in the flesh though to see whether it's as stupidly large as I assume it is.

I'm still waiting for mine. Despite having a 24h reception DPD seem to have not been able to deliver it as no-one was in.
-
• #16517
But the earliest it could be out of warranty would be November 1st!

Me too. Waiting for new tech thing with a vengeance as the LG G3 is being a piece of shit now.
I bought it as the Google/LG Nexus was highly rated but it overheats and eats battery life. So disappoint.

Android Marshmallow finally brings visual voicemail. Really the dialer in general is a huge step up.

I'm edging towards a Z5 or a Z5 compact dual as my next phone.
Fed up with shitty battery life on the Huawei P8. -
• #16521
Oh yeah, just checked...5th November was the shipping date of mine.
-
• #16522
What is visual voicemail? Ins't that a tautology.
Unless they mean for video calls in which case the 60s called and they want their hoverboard back too.
-
• #16523
they want their hoverboard back too.
They can fuck right off then.
-
• #16524
Hoverboards are illegal.

Hoverboards aren't available yet.
Electric roller skates can fuck right off.
I've found it to be a significant improvement over Lollipop (for some reason that was terribly laggy on my Nexus 5) and the battery life does seem better.
Nothing significantly improved otherwise. The Google Now on Tap may be useful at some point (hold down the main button on any screen and it will do a context sensitive search) but I may well end up turning it off.
You can access a System UI tuner which allows a few of the fine tuning items that CM has. Strangely hidden away though http://www.droid-life.com/2015/08/17/turn-on-system-ui-tuner-in-android-6-0-preview-3/
Rooting was a bit of a sod. Had to flash a custom kernel; although if you're already having to flash as it won't update OTA it should only be another 5 minutes of a job. http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/how-root-android-6-0-marshmallow-build-mra58k-nexus-5-6-7-9-nexus-player-1522653 Saying that, I found it a bit awkward to get a custom recovery installed after I flashed Marshmallow
