Spent bank holiday weekend in the highlands, absolutely incredible food ( I went with 2 Frenchies that we're amazed how good the food was), weather and scotch. Scotch highlight had to be the Highlander inn in Craigellachi, over 500 different bottles to choose from and a huge Japanese selection (as they've got a twin site in Japan). Had a flight of lesser known Speysides, Glenlossie 10 year old and Mortlach 16 year old were incredible.

Must've been said before, but the Lidl 8yr blended scotch is quite drinkable. Started on a blackberry whisky with most of 2 bottles, drank the rest on its own. Decent cheap booze.

Cheap sipping bourbon? Any recommendations to get me through to Xmas and a more expensive bottle!?
-
• #1837
Dunno what you call cheap, but Buffalo Trace is a good standard bourbon. Woodford Reserve is nicer and often on offer below £30.
-

Buffalo Trace is really good I actually prefer it to Woodford Reserve as that's a little too smooth for me, although both are very nice. Trace a little Rye spicier to me

Big branches of M&S (and small fancy ones like Canary Wharf) do Elijah Craig 12yo for £26-27 which is £8-10 cheaper than anybody else

The in-store Aldi stuff is quite good. Only about £12 a bottle as well.

Had a few glasses of this last week: https://www.englishwhisky.co.uk/online-shop/english-whisky/chapter-9-peated-24
I was in Norfolk and was amazed by it. I never knew they produced a whisky, let alone anything as nice as this. -

That's what i mean by cheap! Picked some up last night. We'll see how long it lasts...

I went there after the Breckland 50. They have a bunch of 'Chapters' and some specialty stuff.

It's nothing special. Nice, but a bit gimmicky.
Nice. I've recently got into Old Fashioneds.
Makes me feel all Don Draper...
