I've had Glen Garioch - it's just up the road from me - I don't mind Benromach either

It's a really good basic bourbon. Nothing fancy, but does the job.
Tried Hudson last night, very tasty indeed.

I drank some Laphroaig 10 for the first time in ages last night. Such a classic Islay.
It also made the cheap left over Easter egg I was eating taste incredible; with notes of burnt toffee. mmmm.

Went on a tasting session organised by a colleague at The Whiskey Shop yesterday. Opened with one of their blends which was nice and then a Glen Livet 10 yr and a Higland Park which were both ok but nothing special.
Then 2 stormers: a Nikka Miyagikyo Non Age which was beautifully clean but spicey, and then my favourite; a BenRiach Birnie Moss Intensely Peated.
Smoke, BBQ and peat (although not as much as you'd expect from the name), this one just went on and on. Such a long aftertaste and smell. The evening only cost a fiver which was very good although I think it'll end up costing me more as I'm going to have to treat myself to a bottle of the BenRiach. :)

Hudson four grain small batch. The local specialist liquor slinger was all out of Kings County, so gave this a try. Very impressed. Interesting mix of grains makes for a super smooth sipper.... Some great stuff coming out of Brooklyn. fairly pricey at £40 for 35cl bottle though. Don't think this one will last long!
Wax sealed cork is a bit annoying to get into mind...

Went into Milroy's for the first time in months and... oh, dear. Used to be a nice wee whisky shop with an interesting range. Now has a tiny selection of whiskys and is a bar, with a "hidden" speakeasy cocktail bar underneath. Both full of barely pubescent hipsters who know fuck all about whisky and don't give a shit about it.

Making Old Fashioneds with Rittenhouse Rye. Lush.
This. But they are not all sweet. Glen Garioch does some very dry and peaty variations, for example.
