I'm just trying to get a feel for what's out there. Nothing has popped up on my radar since I bought the N5 two years ago or whatever it was. Now I'm actually thinking a downgrade to a newer bit of kit will probably be the best way to go. Probably easier to get the missus onto a cheaper phone that's faster than her GalNex than to find me a phone I'm actually happy with.

Weird, I feel exactly the same way... I'm gonna stump up the cash tomorrow and get my N5 fixed but that's gonna be me done for a while, there still seems to be very little point in upgrading to anything else...

The processors/GPUs in the Motorolas are old hat (not just the Moto G). Moto G only has 1Gb of memory. I have a 2nd generation Moto G 4G (the old one) which has 1Gb and I think it's one of the things that slows the phone down a bit. Could be snappier, although it is much better on Lollipop.
Motorolas in theory get the latest Android next after the Nexus devices because they are basically Google but the reality for me was I finally got Lollipop a few months ago.
The Moto G screen is nowhere near as sharp as a Nexus screen. The Nexii (?) have fingerprint scanners, much better cameras (my Moto G camera is awful, the new Nexus cameras sound great) etc.
I preferred the Nexus 4 I smashed and will probably get a Nexus 5X or 6P (which would go nicely with my Pixel 2) eventually.
The Moto G's are very good for the money, but they are a budget phone so aren't as good as a non-budget phone.
If you like your Nexus 5 and don't need to replace with it stick with it.

Yeah, I'm waiting to see if I can get a N5X for testing through work. The Moto thinking was to replace the bird's phone, which fucks me off whenever I have to use it - typically driving to races and I don't need to be more fucked off than I already am pre-race.

fix it yourself? I replaced my screen a week ago - £25 part, 45 mins work. Pretty satisfying.

What do we reckon to the Xperia Z5 Compact?
-
• #16439
Link to the part you bought pls? Is the screen as good as the OG?
-
• #16440
Took it to a place in the city, £75 and it only took an hour... Happy with that, I would've had to wait a month for the screen to turn up from Hong Kong anyway...

For those considering the Moto E, it's not on the list of Motorola products getting a marshmallow upgrade.

I got a free 'dad-case' from the shop that fixed my N5, I quite like it... I am gonna get an official bumper case for it if I can find one, anyone else got one? Thoughts?
-
• #16444
I have the official bumper but it's quite bulky. I got this for cheap and I like it: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00FJX8VE0?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s01

Do you know if it's possible to install stock Lollipop or Cyanogenmod on a Tesco Hudl 2? Considering buying one for cheap
-
• #16447
Not exactly a bumper case but I got one of these for when my Nexus is rattling around in my saddle bag. Seems fine and also protects the screen http://www.banggood.com/Nillkin-Magnetic-Flip-Leather-Case-For-LG-Nexus-5-Google-p-944657.html

• #16448
I've got a cheaper version of that, total dad case! My fake LG bumper case should arrive today...
Loving having my N5 back in action, such a great bloody phone...

Is it worth getting a wireless charger for my Nexus 5, if so any suggestions?
-
• #16450
I have one. You have to put the phone in just the right place and it doesn't charge as fast as a decent mains power cable.
Only really worth it if if you're worried about the USB port breaking or you like to pick the phone up a lot and use it whilst it is charging.
