Have looked around the web a bit and it would seem that 6800 only comes as double. Is there a half shift so that the big chainring can use a larger range of the cassette? Bit of a noob with road stuff.

something like that or there's an extra trim to move the mech outboard to stop rub when using the smaller sprockets

Lots of strokes, little pressure.
This very much.

Should post my green Synapse Carbon but the decals are taped over, and anti'd up with high vis strip stickers. Maybe I'll shoot a photo next time it's out for training

There are two four positions, two of them are trim.

Except 6800 doesn't do that.
Four positions;
High
High-Low
Low
Low-Low -

Decided to change the tyres and just go out and ride it instead of waiting for cash to buy new wheels:
More comfy than CAAD10, although could be because of 25c Open Paves vs 23c GP4000s / don't like wobble in Ultegra levers before shift (is there some way to adjust this?) - SRAM feel better / this 58 fits better than the 60 / kids at traffic lights apparently think green tyres are cool. Ultegra 6800 + Hollowgrams are heavier than SRAM Red / Force mix. Whole bike currently 7.9, whereas CAAD10 was 7.5kg. Wheels and bar change should bring it down to 7.5.

What do you mean by wobble? like a slight play?
-
• #2788
Yeah. When you push the whole lever inwards (as if shifting to a larger cog on the cassette), it doesn't engage immediately; it moves some distance before pulling the cable. SRAM Red levers required much less movement and had less play, although I guess party due to DoubleTap separating the brake and gear levers.
Is that normal? I see no reason for it. Should engage immediately and have no useless movement in the lever. Are DA levers the same?

Don't remember seeing this one before.

It may be this way so you don't have unwanted gear changes when applying the brakes.

can i haz one plz

• #2792
Yeah, My 9001 DA and 5800 105 both have that initial 5mm of travel

Weird. Feels more like 2cm to me, or that's how much movement there is at the bottom of the lever before it bites anyway. Will have to check out some display bikes in a shop and compare.

Feels more like 2cm
I think it is. It's lightly sprung rather than totally lose. I ride with that 'slack' taken up if I'm anticipating a change. It's ok.

• #2795
Yeah could be more, I can't say it's ever bothered me though

I've heard Campag users moan about it.
I think having the lever move in two planes is a culture shock :-)

It's no good, I guess it's time to upgrade to Di2.

Ha, can't with this frame. Only downside compared to CAAD10. Will have to wait for wireless.
Does feel odd with the wiggly wobbly levers, compared to SRAM where there was no extra movement. DoubleTap is a better system. Oh well. Guess that's the trade-off for better front shifting. Plus some weight.

Now that you mention it, I actually found myself accidentally shifting down on the SRAM shifter because the action was so much more direct and light after being used to Shimano.
I appreciated the Shimano design as it's easier to shift while braking.

At the risk of throwing stones in my own black & white glasshouse, that looks a bit colourful for you ;-)
Post is in further than the min insert, the one in the pic is an ALI one I had from another bike as the shop had greased the carbon post so there was no chance of that staying put, got some carbon paste on order. Haven't got a torque wrench but wouldn't want to be doing it much tighter. Have read somewhere that there is less friction when tightening if the gap in the collar is lined up with the gap in the seatpost.
