  • Is the genesis really worth £350 more...?

    No.

    I'll just leave this here...

  • Answered your own question - get the cdf

  • If I'm gonna spend £450 on a Cdf I'd much rather just spend the extra £100 on the equilibrium I reckon. A blog post about the perception of bike components and the mental effects they have don't stop the mental effects from being present... Whilst I agree that the kaffenback and the London road would both do the job great, the genesis looks nicer. Otherwise everyone would have a Planet X road bike and rapha would go out of business. I'll admit, I want something I like just as much as I want something that's practical. I think?

  • BALL HARD and a get a Rychtarski with awesome paint. €800 only ;)

  • €800!? That's only like £30 more than the genesis. Reckon it'd be that with a disc brake fork? Or is that just the frame?

  • Frameset; disc caliper whatever ..
I was just teasing. Stay with genesis.

Steel disc fork needs OG builder.

  • Don't do this =[ you're adding another choice to the mix and I struggle with choosing a pizza topping... I won't go down the custom route. This bike is gonna be abused (but I also want it to look nice)

  • Psee had a good experience with Rychtarski disc .. but the forks are columbus carbon. If I was going disc I'd go with an experienced builder who I can communicate with easily. Mini V rychtarski is where its at ;)

  • Watch the clearances as I think the equilibrium 'only' runs 28 with guards while the cdf runs 32 with guards

  • Aye confirmed that. Only intend on running 28c as this is gonna be a fast winter roadie as well as the commuter. All set and ready for the frame to be released... Now... =[

  • Would a crux at a reasonable price (cheaper than the genesis) be a silly move? No guard mounts but all the tyre clearance I need and disc brakes.

  • silly move?

    yes, its a CX bike

  • Guard mounts aren't the be all, but from reading and considering buying an alu cx bike myself, the Crux is built to be raced/thrashed around a muddy field, as Spesh already has tour/gravel bikes in their line up, it was built as a race machine. I'm tending towards Giants Tcx Slr1, still racey, but listed as a race bike and gravel adventure bike, and has hidden rack mounts so cobbling mudguards on is not beyond the realms, but I'm just gonna get clip ons.

  • Yes, because what you really want is a genesis

  • The geo isn't massively different. The stack is a little higher I think so it will just negate a spacer or two that I'd have put in. So with it being a cx frame that's not a huge issue. It probably is the less practical frame though and I'm just being silly but will keep an eye on the price and if it goes dirt cheap this evening then I may have to just go for it.

  • Get the Genesis. Its for the commute and winter miles. No point getting an alu frame without mounts.

  • Really? Are you really going to be happy, you know what they say - actually its something along the lines of buy cheap, buy twice.

might may sense if you can transfer the bits onto the genesis when you eventually get there!

  • And we are back to telling me to wait for the genesis. This thread is almost working. I just really like the crux but I have once again seen the light.

  • The crux has an rrp of £750 so it's not cheap really, just might go for a good price in 10 minutes. Really tempted to bid. I can live with clip on guards (have done on my commuter and road bike for the last 6 years) and it looks awesome... If it stays sub 300 I might go for it.

  • 7 minutes... tension building...

Is the Crux their race cx bike/frame?

  • Yeah majorly impractical... Clip on guards and it'd work out ok and look great as well... Probably will rocket in price now though...

  • Well?

  • edit: can't count

  • I displayed a level of self control and just watched the auction. Ended up on a pretty good price of £313. Probably for the best.
