    Getting there slowly. Tomorrow I will do the cables, adjustment of gears and de-sticker the rims.
    Also I need to rub some more acetone on the stem.

    When a longer bolt for the front brake and rim tape arrives I will go for a ride, then do the bar tape after adjustments. Can't fucking wait!

    I am really happy about my new shed, even though it isn't much compared to my shop back in Denmark.

    I might have a small issue. I tested the brake bridge height out on other brakes than the 5800. Seems like I have been to generous with the space. Might have to get some 'drop down brake shoes'. Paging @amey : What are these called? You got the on your Ryt right?

  • How much of a difference? try and play around with the screw on the left side to see if it possible to get it to fit.

    Failing that, best to get those Shimano long drop brakes.

  • You had yours on long reach right. How bad can it be on ordinary brakes?

    People have also drilled the brake adjustment bit to make them reach longer; worth a try.

  • Think about it.

    Not as powerful due to flex.

    Best to go for the bigger Shimano brake and retain the power than to compensate, least it's just the back where you only need to brush speed.

  • It is only the back. And it isn't a whole lot of extra mms I need.

    Would be retarded if I had to buy a complete mid reach brakset

  • can you not file the brake arm slots longer? not enough material?

  • Drill that vertical dropout 2mm up.

  • If the pads won't come to the rim, the rim must go to the pads.

    Especially if you're only talking about 1-2mm... and it's not like you don't know how to use a file!

  • So stuff needs to be done. I am considering 1. filing brakes, 2. dropouts or 3. buying mid reach calipers.

    1. Filing the brakes seems stupid. Warranty will go and there isn't a lot of material to file. I fear that it will crack. It is alu...

    2. Filing dropout is do-able. The only file I have with me in the UK is a round file that would do this job perfectly. The con is that it is breezer style dropouts, so there is a limit to how much I can file before the QRs are in the way.

    3. Buying new calipers. If I go this route, should I buy only rear and accept a loss of 22gbp? Or should I buy a set and sell the 5800s as a kit (might be easier? and could pay for the new brakes) .

    @spotter game on. I have been looking for a training buddy ;-) This weekend if I get the bike rolling?

  • Seems like Shimano BR-R451 might be a little more matte black than 5800.

    I could maybe accept that the rear brake looks a bit different, but my inner OCD wants the bike to at least look perfect (I know it's not)...
