What was that game on windows machines that you clicked little squares to clear the bombs away - gone blank, can't remember the name?

Can I use my Shimano SL-7402 downtube shifters with newer 8 speed Shimano derailleurs, or is the cable pull different?
-
• #69082
Bingo! Cheers
-
• #69083
In general derailleurs are "dumb" they do what the shifter tells them to do.
-
• #69084
True, but not the whole picture in that two different derailleurs may not move the same distance based on the same amount of cable pull due to different geometaries. i.e. older XT and new XT that uses the Shadow geo.
Hence the question about cable pull, for which I have no answer :)

This has just been sent to me by the Freight Transport Association and appears to outlaw earphones in France whilst using the road system including bicycles, my question is where is the best place to post this?
.FLASH INFO...FLASH INFO...FLASH INFO.
FRANCE - BAN ON USE OF EARPIECES WHILE DRIVING
Members are asked to note that from 1 July 2015 a new regulation will come into force which forbids all drivers from wearing any device capable of emitting sound in their ear. This applies to all road users driving with a steering wheel (truck, van, car) or a handlebar (motorbike, scooter, moped, bicycle). The prohibition applies not only to telephone conversations but also to music and radio whenever the sound passes through a device in contact with the ears. This new decree complements the existing prohibition from using a handheld mobile phone whilst driving and non-compliance is a Class 4 offence making the driver liable to a fine of €135 (and deduction of 3 points for national French drivers).
Devices fitted in the vehicle or motorcycle helmet, i.e. without an earpiece and not requiring handling, remain acceptable while driving. Aids for the hard of hearing and those used by emergency vehicles or for driver training on motorised two-wheelers also remain allowed. -

You might find the answer here:-

Looks like it may work with the alternative cable routing: http://www.sheldonbrown.com/dura-ace.html#alternate

Thanks everyone! I'll just try the alternative cable routing and if it doesn't work I'll just get something else to shift with.

My gf has a nice woodrup with a mix match of campag, running 6 speed friction with some nice campag DT shifters, and a slightly more modern 8 speed campag rear mech.
She doesn't really feel confident with the DT shifters, and due to the 6 speed setup, I thought easiest would be some thumb shifters.
Any recommendations for cheap but reliable thumbies? As mentioned, would only need to be set up as friction.
-
• #69091
Cheap and reliable define thumbshifters.
That said, just get the cheapest shimano one that works. -
• #69092
Is anyone here fluent in written Urdu?
-
• #69093
Wouldn't friction thumb shifters be difficult to control: hard to move the shifter just enough/not too far with one digit?
What about mounting the DTS on the stem, assuming the problem is that she doesn't like the reach to them on the DT?
I'll have a rummage: pretty sure I have a mount you can have.

Recommended shoes with a narrow heel and a deep toe box? I've got a hammer toe from wearing shoes too small as a teenager. My foot's quite narrow all the way but I required a toe box with a bit of height to it.
Shimano fit okay, a bit wide in the heel, but the synthetic leather seems to start delaminating within a few months. I had a pair of Specialized road shoes which were supremely comfortable, but then some mountain bike shoes which were not. Gaerne and Sidi are too tight on the toes. Will these heat mould-able shoes help with such a problem? Home surgery on the toe?

Riots do look like a good option. Anyone used their sizing calculator? it's recommending EU43, when I've been wearing Shimanos in 45.

Giro? Plenty to try on at Soho Bikes.

Giro are too wide for me, I was maxing out the velcro straps and still had excess material in the instep.

What would be the cause of someone stripping out the splines on a Hollowtech crankset?
This happened to my clubmate today. Halfords installed it (4 weeks ago) but I can't see how you'd get to that point without noticing a lot of play.
