Why does the female part of this style of seat post binder bolt have allen key and a notch?
Am I missing something or is one or the other redundant?
-
• #69030
The reason I ask is because I'd like to use a security bolt to secure the seatpost. I wondered if I could get away with replacing only the male side with something secure, then simply rounding off the allen part on the female side so that it can't be forced with an allen key.

For seat binders without a hole for the notch to sit in? Is it a "universal bolt" or something?

For seat binders without a hole for the notch to sit in?
Surely then the bolt wouldn't sit flush?
Is it a "universal bolt" or something?
That image is straight from SJS, so I imagine it's fairly "universal" but the one that came with my frame is exactly the same...

All I can think of is that it's a good way of securing the seat post carefully.

It's for tightening the bolt until the point at which it's tight enough for the notch to engage.
No, me neither.

Who suggested removing the 11T and spacing it over? I can't find the discussion.
This is where I'm at. I've removed the 11T and put two random spacers (one in parts bin, one off my Ksyriums) behind the cassette.
It kind of works, in that it spaces the cassette away from the Raltech cover but doing so means I almost run out of splines for the 12T to bite into before the lockring tightens and even then I think the lockring might bottom out before it locks the sprockets down so they'll flop a bit.
I think I need different spacers to tweak the width a bit (ie. 11spd spacers - any idea what size they are or where to get random width spacers?).
Or, do I bin this idea and move to using a cheaper cassette with the biggest cog removed?
This whole Raltech thing is proving to be a total PITA. -

I suspect the reason is so that you can use two hex keys until the notch is sitting snuggly in its groove and then you can use just one.

Any suggestions on pubs/bars/restaurants/anything else for three thirty-something blokes to go to in Birmingham over the weekend? Anywhere with decent beer would be a bonus. Cheers

I have Mavic Krysiums (or wahtever the stock wheel on a caad was) and Shimano r501s.
I think I can put up to a 28 on there (according to the mfrs). What about 32s? What will happen at <50psi?

How frustrating the 130mm doesn't have the non track nut version.

I've thought about that but it requires P2M and Zipp disc which is a £2000+ investment for very little gain.
