Dodgy cable routing?
Correct cable pull? Which cranks/chainrings?
It's a 5800 groupset, nothing fancy or unusual.
These new mechs pull almost directly vertical meaning (I think) they need a ton of cable tension. There must be a mechanic's trick I'm missing...
In the USA they come with this thing (below). It's mentioned in the .pdf from shimano but they didn't put one in my box!

Miro - I have one of those which I could post you if you would like?
I spent a huge amount of time fiddling with the setup on mine (on the 'rotter) and it's pretty sweet now, but took a while.

Can anybody recommend a nice late 90s seatpost in 27.0?
Just got outbid on an Easton DA one in Germany...they come up in 27.2 in UK but 27 seem Hen's Teeth... yep measured frame and post, deffo 27.0 and no more.

I think I may have it sorted... by following Zinn's guide to-the-letter. I think there is something in setting the low limit screw really close to the chain in low-low before going any further.
It shifts well and the mech clears everything except 36/11 and 36/12.
Thanks for offer. I think I'll just get my LBS spanner to glance at it and tell me if I'm missing any tricks.

Rattle-canned the silver stem black and swapped the silver seatpost for a black one I had laying around. Much faster.

Just push the dérailleur a little higher with your hand then tighten bolt.
Tension should be quite tight, a lots more than usual.
No need for that fancy plastic thing.

felt breed? Looks rad, wish we could get them in the UK

I didn't have much luck doing that. I thought that was an obvious way to get a bit more tension in but it gave a really stiff push needed, then bang into the big ring (with no usable trimz).
It's working nicely now.
I think I quite like the levers. Such adjustable, much brakes, wow.

She is already enjoying it. I think it's a bit more racy than Kona. And very functional still.

That's the cable housing getting bedded in, perfectly normal.
Hence why shop offer free service after 6 weeks.

I don't like the top tube shape, but function wise it's all good.
great for shouldering though, this has been one of my fave bike for the longest time

Not if you've got a decent mechanic who pre-sretches the cables with the ferules in place. It's easy to do.

Hadn't seen that before, it's a beaut.

Found a basket kerbside that someone helpfully stepped on. Fitted, bent to clear shifter.
Got the old bb out - after months of penetrant still no luck. No access to vise atmo, so modified a can of scholl freeze spray to direct coolant into stuck steel cup.. came out clean as a whistle. Fitted cheap fsa 44/34. Downshifts fine but no ramps etc so upshifts are beyond finesse. Just messy. 44t is a treat with mtb 9spd rear.
Either the top race or fork threads are gone.. just noticed after putting new bearings so gonna leave it for a bit.
Final purchases: Deciding between powergrips or rrestrap/similar. Front rack.
