  • Any experiences freecamping near London? I'm looking to do a weekend tour around the coast (Brighton, Hashtings...) starting and ending in London.

  • Microadventured last night in the south downs, left at 4:30 yesterday and made it back by 10 this morning. Walked a few miles through the contryside south of Petersfield, camped on a hill we walked up, cooked on a campfire and trangia, felt like a holiday!

  • i grew up near petersfield.

    sounds like an excellent trip!

  • I'd like to do a mini-tour from Buckinghamshire area (High Wycombe) to Manchester in the next few weeks. The half way point pretty much lands me in Birmingham and that doesn't quite live up to my expectations of a wild nights sleep in a tent, anyone have any suggestions for where might be a good area to pitch up? I know nothing of the Midlands

  • Aim for somewhere between B'ham & Cov (e.g. Meriden, plenty of Green Spaces to find a bivvy spot) then this sets you up for a nice trip up over Cannock Chase then option to ride alongside Rudyard Lake near Leek, nicely avoiding Stoke etc and bringing you into Manc via Macclesfield.

  • Infact why not push on from Brum and bivvy on Cannock Chase?

  • My quick browse around g maps brought up Cannock Chase as the most ideal looking little spot of green, I think you've sealed it! Gives me a shorter second leg too

  • Cool. If you decide you need some comforts after a longer day then Springslade Lodge & Cannock C&CC are both good sites.

  • If you want a hot shower on the way, then Rough Close Scouts Campsite in Coventry isn't bad for camping.

  • Thanks a lot! Looks like the c&cc will do. Can't go wrong for £7-11 a night!

  • I took El Jefe to see Minions yesterday and having nothing to do afterwards, we decided to take a short microadventure. Packed some basic camping stuff, some food and a change of clothes and headed to the forests north of Copenhagen. Some singletrack and gravel later, we found a nice spot overlooking a lake. Pitched the tent, ate and went to sleep. Got up with the sun at 05:00, had a bit of breakfast and then took an hour long ride around the forest. Packed it all down when we got back and headed home.

  • Can you specify where this is? I'm moving to Copenhagen in September and will be looking to get out for some weekend adventures.

  • The third from last photo is fantastic!

  • Yeah, @stenus, it's in Hareskoven next to the Furesø lake. There is a 25ish km marked mtb trail, a bunch of designated campsites and a few shelters. I've downloaded http://www.shelterapp.dk, which gives a great view of where you can camp. It covers all of Denmark, I think. On Singletrack.dk you can find mtb trails.
Rules in Danish public forests are: No camping, unless you're in a designated spot and no riding outside trails/paths.

  • Cheers, that sounds great - I will definitely be doing that soon after I'm settled. If you know any other good places for bikepacking from Copenhagen do drop me a DM.

  • @Fox @spotter and I did a few days in Herefordshire, up the Wye and touched on wales last week. It was fun. They will fill you in :)

  • Love the look of that Danish trip...

  • Damn, @JesperXT - living the dream...

  • Yeah, was a good time. Got a few more trips planned for the rest of the summer.

  • Excellent photos

  • Some more photos from the above trip with @7Üp and @Fox

  • Great thread.

    Good recommendations for lightweight tent?

Gelert solo and Vango banshee are coming up as most popular.

  • Trekkertent Stealth?
    Terra nova Laser?
