  • Didn't know Cannondale offers a lifetime warranty on road frames. Pretty good.

  • Yeah i had to make use of it recently, they replaced with a 2015 version of the same frame

  • I think they were one of the first. Probably to shake off their reputation.

    AFAIK Trek, Giant and others are 'lifetime' on their frames now. Forks maybe aren't.

  • They offer a "lifetime of the product" warranty on the frame which is different to the lifetime that Trek/Specialized/Giant offer. I have had, on multiple occasions warranty replacements refused by CSG as they deem the lifetime of an alloy frame to be 5 years. I have argued with them until I've been blue in the face on behalf of customers whose bikes they won't replace. As far as I am concerned it's fucking bullshit on CSG's behalf calling it life time when they actually mean 5 years then go fuck yourself. Yet they refuse to change the wording to 5 years when they know they deem the lifetime of an alloy road frame to be exactly 5 years.

    Trek on the other hand will quite willingly and regularly replace 10 year+ old frames on an old for new basis.

    I don't even have a problem with their product it's more their attitude when it comes to supporting it by some of their U.K. staff.

  • Who's CSG here? That's really shit that alloy frames are only covered by a 5 year warranty (assuming it's cannondale you're talking about), is there any reason for this?

  • CSG are the the U.K. Distributor for Cannondale and are part of the parent company that owns them. They are Cannondale essentially, unlike Mondraker for example with have nothing to do with the company that distributes them, other than distributing them over here.

  • Cannondale have been pretty frank about the fatigue life of their alu frames at least since CAAD7 Optimo - a couple of years full on racing use.

    The lifetime warranty is made against manufacturing defects in workmanship and materials, not fatigue failure.

    But yeah unless you read the whole thing it does look like a no questions asked replacement deal.

    I'd expect if a frame failed through fatigue you could still get an amnesty of some sort.

    Although CSG are Dorel they aren't Cannondale - they still have the distributor mentality from their previous life as hotwheels.

  • I remember reading (but have not been able to find again) that in the promo bumph around CAAD10 that that factory that makes them would normally be responsible for manufacturing issues and have to pay for warranty returns, but the CAAD10 had been pushed so far to the limit of what you could do with alu that Cannondale was liable for them

  • Alu frames? Race it every other day for two years or so and I expect the designers will be interested in its condition.

    I bought a racy cannondale in the UK because of the excellent after care service and long term durability of their frames said no one, ever :)

  • Their warranty is similarly worded - I expect it depends on the context of the claim. The relationship the dealer has with the company, the customer's relationship with the dealer and who ends up handling the claim at Trek UK.

  • There's a guy in our club who bought a top end trek in 1998. He's ridden two frames into the ground and is currently working over a Madone from 2006 ish. The LBS and Trek have been absolutely cool with this.

  • Except Trek's lifetime warranty is lifetime, not until we feel like it. Why call it life time if it's 5 years? Why deliberately mislead people into thinking they are buying a product with a life time warranty, not a product with a limited life time.

  • Also, why should one dealer and their customers get better treatment than another? If a small local bike shop can't get their customers the same treatment as Evans, even though their respective customers have chosen to invest in the same brand that is bullshit and terrible brand representation by the U.K. agents.

    While you may say GSG is Dorel and not Cannondale, if you ring and speak to their warranty department they will abjectly tell you that they are 100% Cannondale and they are the direct voice of the company.

    I have found all of Trek's U.K. service staff to be pretty consistent in their judgment of claims and that it makes little difference whom you speak to when is comes to raising a claim.
