Could do but I'm probably gonna ride back. I've just realised I don't actually have my race bike. Doh. So much for forgetting shoes..

Race bike... #overrated
I did the 50 on the hooks of my road bike the other week. Never felt better after a 50. -

Cheers, but I've got a Bontrager saddle cage mount that'll take two already. With my BTA one I can potentially have 2.5 litres of water on the bike, if I don't bring a storage bottle with spares in.
Will 2.5 litres be enough? I can stash a can of pitstop somewhere for p*nct*r*s, got a TT bag for gels but I think I'll need a bit more than I can fit in there.

Extra gels under bibs?
-
• #9431
there's always the option of putting them inside the leg of your skinsuit, although getting them out on a fixie is more challenging as no coasting....
I would have thought 2.5 litres would be more than enough, I got through 750ml on the 50 I did a couple of weeks ago, but it depends on the person and weather.... I'd probably want 3 bottles for a 100 but would probably only actually manage to use 2.
Gel wise, the rough guide for most people is that you are able to absorb 60g of carbohydrate per hour and I definitely wouldn't try pushing beyond that for fear of doing a paula Radcliffe, I tend to be pretty happy on 50g, zipvit gels have about 55g in so that could be as low as 4 gels, or if you use a drink with some carbs in you would reduce that further, otherwise most gels have about 30g in so you'd need to be able to stash 8 or so assuming you are aiming for something around 4, particularly if you nail one just before you set off...

Skinsuits have arms. If you can't get gels out of legs then use arms. Or bento box. Or tape them to top tube.
500ml per hour for me but on training rides I get away with far less.
60g/hr is good but certainly not max. I can manage 90g comfortably and more in shorter races. It's just a matter of finding what works for you for a given distance. Fastest female iron man time was done at 120g/hr apparently.

I don't care about anything except bettering my PB, so to rock up with the PX when I own a Shiv would be annoying. So annoying, in fact, I'd probably be angry enough to PB out of sheer rage. Damn my fickle, angry brain!

As I said it's a guide, and while you might be able to do more, its better to start at average rather than shit yourself after 3 hours....
I should experiment more, I suspect if I was just cycling I could do more, but 120g/hr is impressive and mental - did she have a little trolley behind her for all the gels that must have been!? that's the equivalent of 32 Torq Gels!!

120g/hr could be 2 gel, 1 bar, 500ml 6% per hour or it could be no 'food' and simply a strong carbo drink solution. It's not actually hard to get that level of CHO in. What's hard is doing it for 6 - 12 - 24 hours...

Getting them out of the leg of your skinsuit is actually the easy bit, eating without coasting is harder.

This looks rather interesting, particularly the gearing - changed by moving the cassette...

@StevePeel - Are those Omniums? Have you covered the axle/hole on the DS
-
• #9442
Yep, Omniums with the hole taped over, Goldtec ring. I went round with the leccy tape taping over any draggy bits.

Will you be about on the day Chris?
Hounslow 100
Yes.Sorry to be late responding but I only just confirmed my actual job.
This will mainly be reporting, so I should be around and about. I'll be at the HQ after the finish -

22.13 on the graveyard (u7b) yesterday. Pb by nearly a minute.
Power Meyer battery going I think as it was reporting an av of 150w... Unless I have become ridiculously aero by only changing my saddle....
Was good enough for 7th my best result in an open so far.
Need to get out and ride a fast 10 course some time.

Wasn't he 4:01 something when he sprinted for the wrong car?
@umop3pisdn there was a marshal handing up bottles last year it might be worth posting on TTF to see if there doing the same this year.
Worst comes to worst there's a lay by and place to pause but the hen and chicken (?) pub where the race starts that you could stash a bottle.
If neither of those work I have an xlab carbon cage that will allow you to have two bottles behind your seat that you could borrow but you'd have to come and collect from taplow tonight or tomorrow...
