It's a funny one as well, been there for weeks now..
..every other day somebody puts it against the wall, as it's sort-of 'in the way' on the sidewalk I guess,
then a few days later somebody puts it back towards the street, a few days later.. etc.
Must be a heavy fucker as well, it has rained a lot lately..

There are so many matresses (matri?) out there at the moment. I keep seeing the things. There's a pile of about ten of the fuckers piled up in an estate on brixton road at the moment - will get a photo tomorrow.

Dentrassi MasterChef hopefuls?

Oh yes, please do a photo if you can.
I had the idea for months to rent a boxwagon, and drive around town -
collecting the matri, then piling them up at at nice place and have a model lay on top,
you know, The Princess and the Pea style in a urban setting, just for shits and giggles.. -
• #9231
Great idea but gook luck finding someone willing to lay on them!
-
• #9232
Yea, that's kind of the thing.
This sounds a bit macabre maybe, but I did indeed photograph a lot of mattresses - and also a lot of homeless and drunk people, lying on sidewalks, stairs etc. - but not a single one lying on a mattress!
They are rather filthy indeed. -

Digital compact recommendations please. What's good? I now have need for one, portable/small is good, and viewfinder (EVF is find) preferred. Budget probably £300.
The Panasonic TZ60 seems good, and I've always fancied the Fuji X30. Maybe my budget could stretch to a Nikon Coolpix A if anyone thinks it's worth it.

Digital compact recommendations please.
I could give you some serious recommendations in that price range if you mentioned what you want to do with it, what you're after (shooting) exactly, if fixed lens is an option or if you need a zoom, if you prefer a certain brand or really dislike one, etc.
It's sort-of the running gag of this forum, every couple pages somebody pops in and says "hey I need a compact digital camera, which one is good?"

Shit, yeah that would help wouldn't it...
Just out and about really, general snapping of lifestyle/reportage (people and feet). I have no idea on the zoom or fixed, as I've only had an iphone or a rucksack of gear for the last seven years, so could probably live with fixed. I also like the idea of a black & white EVF, anyone got one of them?

Well, I heard really good things from these Panasonics, image quality wise.
Only had a go with one once, I hated how fiddly it is - most of these cameras are, though.
I've always found Canon a bit better in this regard. Maybe something like a Canon S120 is something for you?
If 28mm equiv. fixed lens is an option, and you enjoy (and are willing to pay for) a "proper" camera with nice haptics, I'd look at the Coolpix A, and of course the Ricoh GR! Find a good comparison between the two here. -

I like the first one, lovely colours

One for Tina, but without the compositional clarity...
-
• #9244
Ha, cheers!
Guess if you were aiming for clarity it would have helped to just tilt the camera down (and maybe left) a bit more (I find the background a bit distracting / not adding to the image).

Thanks for the tip - I think consistent good framing is the next thing I want to try and learn, I guess just taking those extra few seconds over each shot is a good place to start?
-
• #9246
Yea, I guess if you have the time, then take your time?
I learned this the hard way - spending a lot of money on film and developement, often realizing afterwards "ah fuck, it's a shit image - but it would have been better if I just pointed the camera a tad more up / down / left / right" or whatever.
Be smart, do it with digital, just pretend it's expensive, and make an effort before you press the button

Ha, yes, I do have a tendency to be a bit trigger happy with digital. I'll go out tomorrow and be a bit more thorough and see where it gets me. Thanks Tina!
