  • ..wicked; never seen these before!
Guess you'll need a well versed lab for dev!

  • Anyone have an experience heat pressing ilford fibre base prints. Would you say its better for higher temp/short time or low temp/longer time?

  • Agfa slide film, T4

  • Hi guys,
MiniClick , as part of Bicycle Film Festival Brighton, is curating an hour of short talks on photography and cycling as part of the festival’s programme.
Talks come from Tim Bowditch, Jonty Tacon, Michal Blann with more to be announced. It's in Fabrica -art gallery (old church converted to gallery) should be an amazing event and it's for free too!

  • ..images don't show for me..

  • Find em full size on http://imdabestmayne.tumblr.com

  • Where are the climbing shots taken.
Looks fuckin beautiful. The first few ones in the woods.

  • Does anybody have any nikon AIS lenses they'd like to sell?

  • Hepburn in Northumberland. Nice wee spot.

  • Ilford Delta 100 - Pentax MX. Velodromo Parque Peñalolen.

Really wanted to come back and visit in the evening and get some more dramatic lighting but only had a couple days in Santiago and had family stuff to do which was a bit long :-(

  • ektar 100
thanks again to @juiceb0x for the tank i used to develop.

  • picked up 5 rolls of film today, all complete shite...
exposures generally crap - not sure if it's the camera or Asda's dodgy processing, guess the only way to tell is to take the next roll to photofusion.
but also, I think me and the XA2 just don't get along... blurry as hell, I have a hard time with that shutter button unless I've actually set the camera on/against something it'll probably move.
I was kind of enjoying carrying an everyday camera, for the most extended period of time in years...
    le sigh.

  • Are the negs ok? I've had good processing but shit scanning from ASDA. Is it worth getting the XA2 cleaned and the shutter fixed?

Spending the best part of £50 only for it all to go into the recycling is a horrible feeling and one which I get all too often. Need to remember to get films developed more often, and DIY where possible.

  • I should've had them done at photofusion to start with. the negs look pretty thin :/
I have loads of other cameras to choose from, just a bit disappoint really. the XA2 does feel nice to carry around.

  • also - when I picked them up all the prints were in one cardboard envelope with the CD (no dev+scan only option), and the negs were uncut and all rolled together, stuck with a bit of tape, loose in the envelope too. I was a bit o_O

  • That's not good, which asda are you going to and what film are you using?

I always get perfect processing but occasionally poor scans from the one in collindale, dev+scan option there is £2 and they always give them back cut and in neg holders unless there's been a winding error and some frames overlap.

Don't be discouraged, just try again with a different lab I guess.

  • Yeah I will, just disappointed after being happy to be carrying a camera again.
Beckton Asda - used to go there years ago for enlargements and they were good. Not impressed now. Colindale's a bit out of my way!
Films were a mix of Ektar (which I know I light-leaked like crazy), Reala, basic Fuji colour, Kodak Gold. The Reala and Fuji were expired.
So many of them are just blurry crap though, I can't seem to fire the shutter and hold that camera steady, don't know what it is. It's like, simultaneously too soft and too difficult to press the shutter.

  • ah fair,

Eye culture on bethnal green road are probably better than your asda then, they're also nearly as cheap.

I can't seem to fire the shutter and hold that camera steady, don't know what it is. It's like, simultaneously too soft and too difficult to press the shutter.

I used to have this problem with an old canon, I figured it was more a case of the shape of the cam vs the size of my hands that was the issue. Either way I'm keen to see your results when you get something you're happy with.

  • It took some getting used to with my XA as well.
Practice a bit (without film in the camera) concentrating on moving just the tip of your finger that lays on the shutter and keeping the rest of your hand(s) still.
After a while I began to appreciate the design.
Ok, also I mostly shot in daylight with the XA, so shutter speeds were pretty much fast enough to get a sharp picture anyways.

As you apparently used mostly cheap / expired / light-leaked (?) film and got this processed using the cheapest option as well you can't really expect great negatives, seriously.
To see if the camera is alright I'd get one roll of nice & fresh proper film, preferably low tolerance (ISO 100, like Ektar - or, even better, slide film), and shoot a lot of stuff in good light with it. Do one or two with the self-timer. Check if batteries are fresh.
Finally get this developed at a proper place.
    Good luck!

  • Yeah some poor decisions on my part. I went hoping for a cheap dev+scan, but got a not-very-cheap dev+print option.

The film is mostly not too bad - the same mix I use in the Leica and get processed at Photofusion, except the Kodak which I just bought when I was out and had run out. The light leak was from the first film I forgot was in the camera, I'd put it in and shot a few frames after fixing the light seals.

Good idea about slide film test and batteries. Until about a week ago daylight has been so dull anyway - surely even worse in Berlin?

To be honest, even with good exposures and processing they would still have been junk, which is what is most disappointing. I can't "rest" my finger on the shutter button without it firing, so I have to drop and press. At the same time I often can't get it to fire when I actively press down so I then have to make two or three attempts. I read that this may indicate some dirt under the shutter button? I think I will look for some instructions how to take it apart and clean - anyone else done this?
