Oh, and yea, Berlin is king of the dullness -
but when I said "good light" earlier I just meant enough light (so you'd definitely get a shutter fast enough it won't matter if you're not holding prefectly still), and somewhat of an even light so the light meter has a clear job - so you later can say for sure that batteries were fresh, film was fresh, shutter speed was fast, and light situation was non-complicated - so if you still end up with blur / thin negs / whatever, it must be something else. -

My sister had one BITD that was used and abused so I got good at XA repair (that was 15-20 years ago when my hands were steadier and eyes keener).
As you might imagine, things are tightly packed which can be intimidating, but it's nonetheless designed to be repaired so it's doable.
Do some background reading first - find a repair manual or look at some online teardowns etc to familiarise yourself with what you're doing
http://www.kyphoto.com/classics/repairmanuals.htmlI think I will look for some instructions how to take it apart and clean - anyone else done this?

thanks, they don't have XA2 guide but the top looks similar (awesome site). will have a look for more info definitely, before attempting anything!

^ sounds wise - about 9years ago I attempted a poorly researched repair on a Canonet G-III 17.
Unable to handle the loss or concede defeat for my hasty cackhandedness I was haunted for 6months by the wreckage hidden in the kitchen drawer.
I finally obtained peace and closure by binning it and accepting that I'm a shit camera repairer -

Thank you for speaking so openly, thus making me realize I'm not alone:
I too have failed miserably - in my case it was a known shutter button issue of the first L35AF I bought;
apparently an easy fix, alas "hasty cackhandedness" ruined things very quickly, and the pitiful thing sat close to my desk with both reproachful and resigned face for months now.
TODAY I WILL BIN ! -

I have a broken Canonette 28 that is still sitting in a box in the loft, waiting for me to take the plunge and ruin it. And my G-III 17 is about to go to the repair man to have the lens fixed back on - I've decided it's too good a camera to bin.

Ah if you were in the UK I'd totally have that for parts (I like to occasionally DIY contraptions) but I guess not really with posting overseas... Is there an old school repair shop that would take it for parts?

If you're really interested and willing to PayPal me postage I'll send it over to you..

Howdy
Before I dish it out to the world, would anyone be interested in my Yashica Electro 35 GS.
I've run a roll through it (a while back) and it appears to be working 95%. I say 95% because when you use the meter there's a weird sound that comes from the camera, kind of like an electrical contact isn't quite contacting. Other than that it's all good. Glass is clear and it has the battery adapter I got from some random in the States. No lens cap though :(
It's been sitting far too quietly on my shelf at home and I'd much rather someone use it.Any offers ? I accept money, beer, hugs and film. No first born though. I'm not a kid person.

Would you post? If so, how much would you want for it posted?
-
• #9664
I'd post it for sure. Need to check on the cost of postage.
I'm going to be difficult and say make me an offer :)
-
• #9665
I dunno, £15?
-
• #9666
£15 plus whatever it is to post it to where ever you are and you have a deal :)

• #9667
Cool, provided it's not a total boatload to post!
Cheers, a mate's been after one for ages so this should be a nice surprise. -

PM me your address details. I'll look into it but it's only likely to be late next week as I'm in Ireland this weekend 'til Wednesday.

shutter button issue
Lovely phrase.

@tina.kino
tempted... but only to save it from landfill, it'll realistically sit in one of my boxes of bits with no particular destination. how much do you reckon postage would be (to London)? happy to paypal if only a few euros.@IR similar story really. although I feel like the 35RC might have slightly bigger bits to play around with? I'm no good with fiddly stuff/electronics (gonna have to read/think very hard before messing around with my XA2...) but like to make crude mechanical things :|

I checked; postage would be 8,79 EUR to the UK.
Would not make sense if you wanted to repair it, as I may have lost some parts in the process (like the top plate, as well as some screws etc.)..
for some sort of DIY contraption it would be fine (the lens itself still looks very good) - though I wonder if you'd not rather use a bigger (SLR) lens for a project like this?
You decide

Am I the only one that finds the auto focus on the Hexar slightly annoying and fails to focus when you really need it..? :-S
-
• #9674
thanks but I think a bit much for me to just stash. I have too many things that might one day be turned into other things...
-
• #9675
..ok, no problem, then I'll bin it..

I sort-of rest my finger on the border of the button and "lean over" to take the picture.
This definitely sucks, and indicates dirt or some problems with the electronics.
Never had this / never took these cameras apart. I think I'd just buy a new one at eBay.
