  • Anyone who works at Evans on here? Could you do me a favour with a stock check for an Arkose 2 in Small?
Will repay in beers or something.

They're still open, you could call them. I just did.

  • Big question would be which evans...

  • Its done. Bike bought. Happy gf.

  • Hoping a current or former employee of Evans might be able to clear something up for me

In the clearance section on the website will ex-demo / soiled / ex-display stock be pretty accurately described? I'm thinking mainly for electronic devices, Garmins etc as I'd have no qualms about buying an item that's just been taken out of the box and left on display in a cabinet but would be a bit more wary of something that's been left switched on/plugged day after day for a few months.

  • @kirkov Garmin displays are always on; think of them more like demo models. For bikes I would be sceptical. Of the many. Have seen ordered in to stores, only around 20% have been exactly as described online.

Generally though, the descriptions for things other than bikes are spot on.

  • Will evans price match bikediscount.de? Or just the sites listed on their site?

  • @krikov With all the soiled goods the descriptions are updated item by item as we put them to Soiled. The descriptions will cover all the damage/items missing. Generally with electrical goods it will be that small items are missing from where the impatient/tight fisted will order a kit to take a mount and then send the item back claiming it "arrived missing". Alternatively they will be store stock where the packaging may be damaged and they cannot be sold as a new item.

The store Garmins that are left on are demo models which are not sold as soiled.

If you are unsure, order the item into a store and inspect it. If it wasn't what you were expecting just return it on the spot.

@croft It is just the websites listed on their site.

  • You can ask them but you have to enter an appeal online I think. If CycleSurgery have the item, they don't quibble, as long as your comparison has same item in stock.

  • Tried. No dice. Only supports those listed on their site. Oh well.

  • Have Evans stop selling certain branded bikes? Can no longer find any Specialized or BMC machines anymore.

  • Unlikely as you can only buy BMC from Evans.

  • does anyone know if Evans will service just a Shimano nexus 8 speed internal gear hub? and at what cost?

my poor commuter is making horrible sounds and needs a look at :(

  • No idea, but Evans is the last place I'd take my bike: https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/264818/

  • Go elsewhere. No one will have time to, and they'll charge you around £40 to do so. Go to Cloud9 cycles. There's a guy there called Marcos who loves internal hubs.

  • well there is nothing listed on their website.

  • It is listed on their website. As I write this, there are 57 2015 Specialized road bikes on their site.

    Are you in Australia?

  • ah.....all is revealed now.
thanks i thought i was going mad.

  • does anyone know if Evans will service just a Shimano nexus 8 speed internal gear hub? and at what cost?

Avoid, and go to reputable shop that advertised internal hubs service such as bikefix in Lamb Conduit Street, Holborn.

  • I am thinking of getting a Brompton using a pals C2W scheme, he's telling me it has to be via Evans. Can I spec a model with them or does it have to be an 'off the peg' model/colour etc?

  • can be specced but takes ages. specced ones are always more than £1000 too

    source: my life

  • Ask for a bespoke order book, or see if you can find it from Brompton instead. Prices start the same as off the shelf models, and you pay for each customisation you choose (although some changes are free).

Lead time is generally ~2-3 months (can be quicker), but I'd ask them for a recent order they've done for a better estimate.

  • Thanks chaps. I did pick up an order book from the Brompton shop in Covent Garden when I did a test ride, their website spits out a model code too when you choose your spec so I'll talk to an Evans and see if they can accommodate.

  • Big thanks to Evans London Bridge for loaning me a sprocket wrench this morning when my sprocket stripped/loosened.

  • They are one of the better ones.

  • Luckily. Was half-expecting a hire charge for using their tools, but all good. Even had a few friendly exchanges with other cyclists. Would use again 10/10
