It's a bit like the hour record. Boardman / superman -v- Eddy Mercx record. Not comparing like with like. Saying that I suppose it's the rules that count at the end of the day.
Go Steve!!!!!!! -

From Hoppo's FB page.
Steve nears 10,000miles, Kurt gets knocked off again, also lots of unneeded distractions about rules, alcohol, and rule changes.
What's all this faff about rules, alcohol and rule changes? There is a bit of conversation about it in the comments, but out of context it didn't make much sense to me.

Where? I don't see that.

I'm hopeing to do 10,000 miles this year, I've currently done 1383... Steve's just mind blowing....

191 miles yesterday? It was foul out there. I nearly lost the car door opening it with a tail wind and then got frozen fingers returning with my shopping across Sainsburys car park. Was thinking of Steve as I cursed the elements. 191 miles? Amazing.

Belatedly listened to The Bike Show interview yesterday. Great stuff from Steve - who doesn't normally come across very well in interviews - and good background from Jack Thurston and Dave Barter
Link again in case (like me) you missed it first time out.

I listened to this yesterday also. Jack got some great stuff out of him.
Great stuff from Steve - who doesn't normally come across very well
in interviewsI've always thought this too but could never quite put my finger on why.

In contrast Kurt comes across very well IMO.
It's obvious that this HAMR is in no way a publicity contest, nor should it be, but Steve's attempt does feel a little... distant. I mean I follow the little orange dot on trackleaders, marvel at his strava uploads and check Hoppo's spreadsheet, but we hear very little from the man himself. I'd love to be able to feel a bit more engaged with Steve's attempt.

I quite like the fact that he is just getting on with it. I get the feeling if Steve were a rich man and didn't need donations, he probably wouldn't do any press at all, just gaining satisfaction from his own achievement without validation from the public at large.

I agree. The guy just wants to ride his bike. I get the sense that the publicity side of it is not easy for him..
@robadob - I've thought about this a bit. Most interviews I've heard with him this year are A. over the phone, and B. at the end of a long day/week/month on the bike. Jack's interview was one-to-one in his home and before he had started. I don't know but I reckon that makes a huge difference. @hippy - I assume you've met him.. What's he like? -
• #423
He's riding, not chatting.
-
• #424
Nope, never knowingly met him. Or if I did I wasn't in a fit state to recall. I've known 'of' him for a while though.

Yet interestingly if you look at the Strava comments and kudos, Steve has about 10 times the number Kurt is getting.
Plus, most of Kurt's kudos clicks are coming from the UK. Whodathunkit?
They are both interesting to follow in their own very different ways - I'm really enjoying the contest.
That is some downwinder...I'm not sure how fair it is considering he could just kip in the back of his RV while his girlfriend drives him back upwind.
Has Steve even been in a car in 2015? It looks like each of his days in the saddle start at the point he got off the day before. Class.
