Got a vid?

Just reported a taxi to road safe that decided to punishment pass me twice down mile end road, made me think about getting a camera but from the wording on road safe they wouldn't accept video as evidence of a close pass?
Videos should not be edited in any way. They must not rely on a perception of distance such as a close pass as the apparent distance will vary according to the type camera and settings. There are other issues with video evidence, such as parallax error, which makes objects appear close together when they are seen in line. In general, evidence of provocation or disproportionate reaction will mean that no action is taken.

It can't hurt though. Ultimately RoadSafe exists to collect data and send out warning letters. They can still do that, vid or not. In the cases involving taxi drivers they've palmed off to the Public Carriage Office anyway.

That's a bit of a BS statement, as it is easy to look at other features on the road to gain a pretty good idea of distance i.e. if you are in the cycle lane, and the car comes into that lane. Then it is clear that car is way too close.

I am really looking forward to the bus strike. The last one gave a glimpse of
utopia. -

The night club that used to be in Theale by the sainsburys and the porsche garage?
-
• #5583
That's a new one. They must be trying to dissuade people from submitting video evidence of bad driving.

Just reported a bus driver to TFL. Never officially complained before so not to sure how long it takes for anything to happen. Cycling up cambridge heath road, stopped at some lights just before the sainsburys, where there is a bus stop just after the junction. Driver pulled around me at a set of red lights, then as the lights changed and we both set off, he took a second to draw level with me, then horned and pulled right across me to dive into the bus stop, was forced off the road basically. so so unnecessary, since he could see the bus stop and could have just waited behind me in the left lane for literally seconds, just seemed so deliberate and malicious, as if he was proving a point, compared to the dangerous but unthinking stupidity you encounter day to day.
i cycled up to the next bus stop and waited for the bus and asked for his licence number or reference or anything, wouldn't give any details. so i took note of the bus stop, time, route and licence plate.
wish i could have remembered what he looked like more but when the anger/adrenaline subsided and I was writing the complaint I realised I couldn't really remember which was annoying.

Don't all the buses have CCTV?
=> subject access request

@Brameses you should easily have enough info to identify the driver, bus companies aren't especially fond of being helpful tho and so have it stiched right up. Is sadly why I have taken to a camera on the bars. I'm unsure how useful it is but buses seem to have the reg and then another number on them, like this one(VVV) has 753 on it. Some sort of designation given by the bus company.
It isn't always followed up, lots will just go into a database.

Ok so on Friday afternoon I was knocked off my bike. I slid under the rear wheels of the car and just managed to pull my leg out the way before she drove over my rear wheel. Scary stuff.
Briefly, I was going straight on and she was coming in the opposite direction turning right across my lane. No cars in front of me, she could see me clearly up the road, plenty of time to make a call as to begin her turn or stay put. No SMIDSY, no excuses.
Thankfully I just have bruised ribs. After I got up out of the road I gestured for her to stop. She pulled into the side of the road for maybe 10 seconds, the passenger put a 'and what?' arm out the window then they just drove off.
Thankfully I had a witness who gave me his contact details and a vehicle reg. After calling 999 and getting a lift home with the police they confirmed that they had a local address. Just now I've had an email from the policeman saying that the driver DID report the collision but is not accepting dangerous driving. I'm fucking fuming. I have sore ribs and a knackered bike. She didn't even fucking stop?!
Without reading this entire thread, what are my options?

you have a witness - whether she accepts it or not seems entirely besides the point. have your day in court, tho don't be surprised if her brief tells her to say she was blinded by the sun and that's why she clattered you and goes home scott free. seems to work a treat these days.

Cheers. I thought as much. It was a gloomy day, no sun, perfect vision, etc, blar, blar. Fuck.
A follow up to my close pass on the A38.
I had a phone call today from an officer at A&S who has spoken to the driver of the car that nearly hit me. The driver was very apologetic not just to the Police but also to me, which is nice. On the downside, he had no recollection of the incident at all.
I told the officer I was grateful for the apology, but worried by the fact that the incident did not even registered with the driver.
Maybe a call from the Police will make the driver more careful next time.... or maybe not.
