  • Heh, last week my destination was Sheffield yet on auto pilot I went up the m6 to warrington. ... Then across the m62

  • Am currently sorting through lots of board games, (sadly only two in original boxes and some of the boards have deteriorated after being in damp conditions).
    Battleships
    Buccaneer
    Colditz
    Connect 4
    Diplomacy
    Great Game of Britian
    Spy Ring
    Scoop
    Tank Battle
    Top of the Pops
And quite a few pieces I haven't identified yet.
Also a bag of Plastic Meccano

  • Awesome collection, quite a few names I recognise there, tho plastic meccano is a new one on me. I was more of a Lego kid myself. I'm sure the Meccano/Lego divide is a signifier of you and your family's socio-political background but I'm too hungover to work out the details right now.

There's a toys of your youth thread here...

  • Actually is a story in the newspaper today about people who collect vintage board games

    http://www.wsj.com/articles/collectors-find-fun-and-profits-investing-in-vintage-board-games-1422849610?KEYWORDS=board+games

Yes I am so middle aged I read the WSJ (occupational hazard too)

  • ah thanks.

I have two older brothers so we had it all! Probably explains why I was always a tomboy. (Am I allowed to say tomboy anymore or is it un PC?)

    Sticklebricks
    Lego
Plastic meccano was the entry level/small kid meccano for kids over the age of 3
We also had a LOT of proper meccano, which like the lego has been sold on.
Hornby trains. Which I was never allowed to play with. I always wanted someone to buy me a train set for Christmas.

@pharoahsanders Thanks. Hope it doesn't push the price up of the things I might be looking for though. I didn't know that reading the WSJ was a middle aged thing, I always thought it was an occupational or locational hazard.

  • i really need to dig some o' this kit outta me ma's attic

    (haz)
think my millenium falcon may be damaged sadly, and the landspeeder

also, shout out to the Jawanese

  • shit, i got the vader storer full of figures, the at at,x wing, tie fighter, jabba the hut on platform, all were played with so sadly un boxed, i gonna raid that fekkin loft,
i heard nigo of bape fame is meant to be the worlds greatest collector
and befamed coke fiend lavelle of unkle/mo wax fame is a bit of a hoarder
i did want to put in perspex but girlfriends usually said no to keep in front room

  • landspeeder is a piece of lush art deco design, if you think about it, maybe

  • i think one of the tubes broke on mine, had great suspension though if i remember , Lando Calrissian was a fav , also the Wookie

i think i also had star wars y fronts
Imperial tie fighter was good 'cos you could press a button and the wings ejected if in a mid flight dog fight, also in loft i think

  • this was also quite a prized item

  • especially the befamed " escape slide"

we tried to do it in real time/life, by tying a rope from a friends tree to a lower contact point, kid had game, he tried it but failed when the line snapped and broke his arm, grew up to smash it in the recruitment game still

  • I never had any of them, but those first-generation Star Wars toys were quality.

  • ^ ha! I remember my Dad absolutely pissing himself laughing at one of my report comments - can't remember which subject - but the comment was 'spasmodically motivated to half concentrate'

    That's just superb!

  • yes, the boxed Kenner stuff does reach premium prices, I am of kenner era,all the loft shit is, think i was around 9 when i saw the first film

  • also, can't forget the amount of times i got blazed in the boatrace by one of these fekkin' things, taught me how to bob and weave/ duck though

    (kids not me or mine)

This. Bloody hurt too. Great for letting off steam though. We made so many holes in the lawn with ours.
