  • My GSC-10 unit on one of the bikes has gone bonkers; gives twice the amount of cadence reading .. I've tried resetting it and changing battery; still the same .. any idea why is this happening? I use a generic earth magnet on pedal axle (like on all my bikes) instead of garmin's ugly zip tie magnet.

The HRM also doesent pick up HR for a good 6 to 7 miles of the ride .. am I dead?

  • Are you running a power meter which produces a cadence figure at the same time? I've had double readings with a power meter/GSC-10/Edge 800/810 combination and solved it by telling the head unit that the GSC-10 is a speed sensor only.

As for the HRM, have you tried moistening the contact patches on the HRM strap before putting it on?

  • If it's the soft strap hrm it sounds like your sweat has started to kill it.

Wash it but if it's still shonky buy a new strap. The polar ones work nicely.

  • Am trying to set my estimated FTP in Garmin Connect so that I can then send it to my Edge 800 and use power zones, but it won't let me edit it....

In the 'Default' training zone page it lets me edit my HR, but there's no option for editing FTP here. The on the 'Cycling' training zone page it shows a pre-set FTP of 400W, but won't let me amend anything.

Anyone got any useful pointers please?

  • How did you estimate your FTP?

I'm pretty sure I saw a thread on the Garmin forum about setting them in Strava?

  • There is an edit ftp option below the hr settings. You need to activate the dropdown

  • Yeh, found that, it won't let me edit the 400w default ftp....

  • Garmin turned off half way through the ride today. When tried to turn it back on, it would shut down in a few seconds. Just got home, plugged in the cable and it still shuts down after a few seconds of trying to load. Anyone has any suggestion how to reset or maybe fix this problem? It's a 810 with all latest updates. Thanks

  • have you tried it without the memory card in? If that doesn't work, can you remove the last (or last few) activity off it via the PC? It's usually a corrupted activity in my experience (not necessarily the latest one either)...

  • Tried the hard reset (power + lap buttons together) with and without memory card - no luck. Connecting the unit to computer with a cable brings it back to life for about 5 seconds.

  • Posted my Fenix II back to Wiggle today- hopefully a significantly more accurate version will come back.

Or it goes back again and again.

  • Garmin 800 navigated me today from Green Street Green to the Cutty Sark. Would do again.

  • Garmin 510 just showing a blank screen, have tried hard and soft reset. Computer picks it up. Any ideas?

  • Contacted Garmin support, they offered me a repair or replacement for £77. My unit was only just two months out of their standard 1 year warranty. This really sucks, was expecting a lot longer life span out of a £500 product and I never damaged it, it just stopped working all of the sudden. 2 weeks without garmin going to be "interesting".

  • I have got two, but if you always break them?

  • Do you suggest I should borrow one until I get my replacement? It's not my fault really, I blame aliens and magnetic forces.

  • eTrex 20 if you want to stop breaking shit.

  • Mailed mine off yesterday, fingers crossed i have it back for Mallorca (6th March)

  • Doing some testing showed that my iPhone 6 has a significantly greater level of accuracy than my Garmin Fenix II when it comes to recording a GPS track.

It also gets a lock in seconds, rather than minutes.

The Internet is full of reports of Fenix II GPS woe, but some people say they are fine - as mine is now with Garmin as a warranty job I am interested to see what they say.

That my phone, a device whose primary purpose is to make phone calls, is better than the Fenix, a device whose primary purpose is a GPS sport tracker, to my mind suggests that the watch is not fit for purpose - will Garmin argue otherwise?

  • Anywhere better than wiggle for the 1000 performance bundle right now? £333-odd. Seems decent. Only 75 more than I paid for my 500 18 months ago.

  • Do you also have wifi enabled all the time on the phone?

  • Phones take advantage of A-GPS which a Garmins can't.

  • That helps with the initial lock, but not accuracy in the middle of the park

  • Also, the Fenix links to my phone during an activity
