  • I can't understand how an iPhone can do so much and a garmin can't even do it job right.
I really want one of the big tech giants to come into the gps device market and blow it apart, it needs some competition badly. What garmin offer is just not good enough in 2015.

  • Can anyone name a more non A-GPS enabled device with better acuracy than the latest top series Garmin? of course 2.2ghz quad core mobile telephones with GLONASS assist are the top of the pops - but their cm^3 are tripple size of a Garmin.

  • my iphone 5 isn't much bigger than garmin 1000 with its shitty screen.
And the volume on the 800 puts it near the same size total too.

  • Garmin are getting less accurate- my 305 was more precise/accurate than my Fenix 2, I'd have been ok with the Fenix if it had been as good as my (much) older Garmin watch, but it wasn't.

  • You had one job to do Garmin, one job.

My shitty 210 has started randomly forgetting activities again. It's already a replacement for the first one that died.

  • I've just ordered the Tickr-X HR strap, will use that with my phone I think.

You can set it to alert you (it vibrates) for things like pace/distance/time which is interesting.

  • vs.

  • I like the way you crossed the road so that you could get your feet wet

  • If you know the area you will be aware that I had just run through/over a significant number of animal enclosures, and therefore needed to wash the various types of dung off my running shoes.

  • Which is which?

  • Top one is iPhone 6, bottom one is Garmin Fenix II with the latest firmware.

For both runs I took pains to run in the centre of the path.

The location was Regents Park - uninterrupted view of the sky for both devices.

  • Looks like I should not have sold my 910XT: http://fellrnr.com/wiki/GPS_Accuracy

  • Can you do one with bike Garmin too?

  • Looks like the firmware? version makes a big difference. Wonder why that is? I thought GPS was GPS? Maybe newer firmware increases recording points/decreases intervals.

  • Newer Garmins use MediaTek chips rather than SirfStar, of the two SirfStar seem better. The 920XT is meant to have a much better antenna design than the Fenix 2, possibly that is true of the Fenix 3 as well- dunno.

  • Every Garmin is lacking CPU power & protocols compared to your iPhone.

  • The HRM also doesent pick up HR for a good 6 to 7 miles of the ride .. am I dead?

That's common. I think it's sweaty moisture helping the contact.

If you place the sensor about 20mm left of the centre of your chest it picks up much better. #protip

  • Lick the sensor or lick your finger and wipe the sensor or spit on the sensor or rub the sensor in your sweaty pits or moisten it with tap water. #protip

  • ...whilst rubbing your left nipple counter-clockwise...

  • Whatever floats your boat.

  • Still not a fan of my 510 breaking on me, but, Garmin sent out a new unit super sharpish. Mailed to them Tuesday 17th, new unit received Tuesday 24th.
