  • There's a bit in Hutch's book Faster about how Boardman found the skinsuit fabric tested faster when it was wet.

  • Wasn't it his wife that mentioned they'd not tested it wet and "you're going to be sweating a bit" or something like that. I remember them spraying it with alcohol before his Hour but I that's for pre-cooling and will evaporate.

  • £200 3T Ventus II. Such tempted, but not sure how much (if any) faster they'll be over my Tulas. Finally bought a Tririg Omega as well.

  • not sure how much (if any) faster they'll be over my Tulas

There's probably 5mm in your elbow positioning which will make more difference, but I'd take the Ventus II because your tall head tube could use the 40mm base bar drop. At that price you've got nothing to lose anyway.

  • I posted that to be dissuaded, not encouraged thankyouverymuch. My only worry is how limiting the Ventus will be in adjusting my position.

  • Oh, and who even uses the base bars these days? Stayed tucked at 48rpm at Bentley last weekend.

  • who even uses the base bars these days?

You have to use them at the Farnham turn, dropping the base 40mm when I switched from the Koga to the T3 was the best thing about the frame swap.

The Ventus II is more adjustable than my Ventus as the elbow rests can be moved fore and aft, as long as the stack and reach is more or less right with everything in the middle of the adjustment ranges you have a fair amount of dialling in space in all directions

  • I bought a pair of them, worst case scenario they'll just go on eBay if they're not fast enough. I don't think there'll be much in it compared with the Tulas, but I have a horrible blocky stem so it would be that rather than anything else.

Is the minimum pad width the same as the old Ventus? I can't find a .pdf manual for the Ventus II anywhere.

New Forest CC open 10 today, seems like the aero testing I did yesterday paid off as I came in with a CdA around 0.200 today with full race kit on:

Was seriously cold, messed up the pacing and did 22:37 which is slower than last year (better conditions last year) but good enough for the win.

  • Is the minimum pad width the same as the old Ventus?

I assume the extensions are the same fixed 80mm centres, but you can get the inner edges of the cups almost touching; there are numerous sets of mounting holes in the cups.

  • did 22:37 which is slower than last year

Did 27:04 on the H10/2 this morning, faster than last year.

  • FFS, purchased.

  • Cool - I'll find out soon enough anyway. I need to have a bit of gap between the extensions (Tulas are 90mm) so will see how it goes.

  • Big discount. I could upgrade the spare bike or wack them on my commuter :)

  • whack em on your inbred ;)

  • I'm hoping they'll fit fairly well, there's a bit of stack to the pads with the current bars and I quite like having the lower base bar compared with the inline Tula bar. Used to run Planet X Stealth bars for that reason.

  • I thought the Tula's were the fastest bar available? Or was that just their marketing spiel based on finding a test protocol that showed them to be the fastest thing they tested?

  • You need to do the dishes before playing on your bicycle, young man!

  • just their marketing spiel based on finding a test protocol that showed them to be the fastest thing they tested

    ↑Every manufacturers aero test ever.

  • They claim to be fastest UCI legal I think. Presumably they'd now claim the R1 to be faster.

  • TriRig not UCI legal?

    Still got those Vuka?

  • Yeah, just like wheels, where everyone has the fastest. Freaking annoying!

  • 6:1 I think. I do, but currently using the extensions and pads on my Tulas. Extensions will carry over to the Ventus IIs

  • If the Ventus II are as aero, but stiffer and with better hand holds I'll keep them. I still have spare sets of Tulas which I'll need to use on the track (or use Brezza II Nano) to be UCI legal so will have a pair on reserve anyway. On fixed having only one brake lever will be an important factor for the Ventus II aerodynamics I reckon.

  • Gotcha. I need to stop worrying about aero and start worrying about actually riding a bike.
