Why cantis? lose them and get V's. Love the Prestige, had one for a while, lovely light frame mine was in black. Had to sell due being too small. Now has been fully restored on Retrobike.

They match the decals perfectly well for now tho. Rad.
If not the paintwork :)
I can't talk, my orange Orange used to have an orange Flite which I don't think quite matched the orange on the Orange...

@smolders thank you for confirming that my dream is worth living. :D
@jontea s'all good. I have a set of untouched black outers if you need em ;)
@paininthe, you know what, I don't actually know why I went for cantis. It just seemed the natural choice and i've never tried them. Mudguard clearance? I know my other bike with V's has zero clearance over 2.1's. If these turn out to be rubbish i'll make the switch no problem.
I saw that thread when I was buying this (from Dossa, same forum)! The stem/bars/frame decals are nice! The ones on mine are from the same guy, but they're faded in places..
@Fox You realise all this time off the bike gives you time to build a stupid retro mtb, right? We need a hhsmtb contingent..

If you haven't bought wheels yet, 26inch wheels at some where like bike-discount.de seem pretty cheap:

That looks quite cheap, but shipping from that site comes to €25 (or maybe even €50), and I'm not sure of the quality of the build. Spa offers a similar xt wheelset for £195 (not black tho).
Considering biting the bullet and building some myself. I'm going to have to stop putting it off and learn some day. Maybe around novatecs?

The time off the bike was spent clearing out the cellar and building the Oak I picked up recently, but I'm back on it now!
The P7 will eventually be resurrected pretty much as above, but it needs the seat tube replacing first and a respray. This will be delayed for a bit by the purchase of the Oak but will happen eventually :)
Have you considered pre-loved retro wheels? You can get some good value wheels on retrobike etc.

I just bought a single 700c wheel from them and shipping was 5.95 to Birmingham.

Oh great! Their shipping table listed 'oversize' stuff as €25 euros. Big savings! thanks.

pre-loved wheels will go on the cannondale. This needs deserves some spanking wheels since most of the rest is new. Plus i'd want some well sealed bearings.

If your brake levers are for v brakes, then you may find it have a noticeable lack of power with cantilevers.

I got the right pull levers :)

Attaboy.
I still suggest going for the V brakes, especially on a touring bike.

Dynamo DH-T780One of these dynamos in a wheelset could cost me only €10 more than standard XT.
Worth it? I'd always avoided the idea because of the cost vs actual benefit (i use a 10,000 mAh battery to power my gear), but at this price i'm not so sure. How much more would I have to invest to get the benefits of a hub like this? Are the lights a PITA? -
• #41
10,000mAh work pretty well providing you can charge it every 5-8 days (depend how much you use it).
I would go for something else, the Shimano are super draggy.

Yeah I find it can last me little under a week or so if I don't use the phone for anything but photos. Plus it isn't hard to find an hour or so somewhere where someone can let you charge it up.
Add to that the risk of theft, them breaking, the fact that i'd have to carry another light anyway as a torch, and the cost of the lights, and the benefits for me seem less and less.
I'll probably just stick with the standard XT

Unless you're going to be riding through the night, a headtorch is usually bright enough, you can get them with AAA batteries.
Choose device that can accept the universal micro usb port, if you have an iPhone for instance, you can get those Apple Lighting to micro usb adapter which is tiny.

You'll be fiiiiine.
There's only a couple of centimeters of outer cable on this frame anyway. Go for orange and live your dream.
edit: good choice.
