  • Apparently Extra have taken over from Performance Cycles as UK distributors for Novatec, but their website only lists the OTP wheelsets, no separate hubs.

  • Will check out the B2B site.

  • Curl that nipple head washer when your China rim outer spoke holes is a pinch too small #ihavenoideawhatimdoing

  • Yup, only OTP wheelsets, can't see anything in our B2B account.

I couldn't find the 32h pair just now, but it was there a few days ago so maybe if you browse around a bit on the site...

  • Yishunbike's announced ERD for WU6C came up a little too long - note to self, trust your own ERD measurement - but damn the toroidal wheel looked intimidating and beautiful (the sound of the spokes not...) :D #headstocnc-de&ordernewspokes

  • Because 96 euros is about £75.

  • It's probably closer to 80 once paypal or your card translates it, but anyway... the 772 has the newer 4 pawls freehub with a steel spline to prevent chewing... the freehub is also 11 speed (with spacer for 10-9) which means futureproofing your purchase as Shimano has pretty much given up on 10 speed, at least for road and CX. You might not care, but when it comes to re-selling anything which is 700c and not 11 speed ready is worthless. For the sake of 15-20 quid extra is a no brainer

  • anything which is 700c and not 11 speed ready is worthless.

    Introduced Obsolescence can GTF.

  • Means there's lots of cheap second hand 10spd for the cheapskates among us...

  • Absolutely... I am on 9 speed but the market is running on 11 speed. 11 is actually interesting, as it's cross compatible between brands, so no need to swap freehubs or use pulley type devices if you want to run Campagnolo Ergos on a Shimano cassette... which is great as Campagnolo Ergos are miles better than the disposable STIs, but virtually all disc hubs come with Shimano splines only

  • can anyone give me some advice - I'm building a pair of royce low flange 10spd hubs onto Flo30 rims, 24 hole. Is it worth me spending an additional £15 to use DT Swiss Competition spokes as opposed to Sapim Race? The DT Swiss will save me 20 grams per wheel which I don't particularly care about but is there anything else I should know about before I go for Sapim race? Or is there another spoke for under 80p each I could opt for such as the Sapim Laser?

  • All the geared bikes in my household are 9sp or 10sp Shimano. I don't care about Campagnolo or SRAM compatibility.

  • every cloud n'all that...

  • Quality is pretty much the same... weight is pretty much the same and I would say actually the Sapim is marginally lighter as it has a steeper taper 2.0/1.8 than the DT Comp.
The reason DT are more expensive is due to Madison being greedy, in Germany they are priced in line with Sapim

  • So is it worth going for Sapim Laser over Sapim Race - is the only difference weight?

  • Laser will build a nice front wheel and a floppy 700c rear wheel. Use them front only and remember they do wind up, so as you turn the tension, always back up a quarter to allow the twist to relax... and destress a lot

  • ok, thanks very much for the help

  • If you browse the Rose Bikes website, you can get the DT spokes at an amazing price... especially silver ones, which I assume is what you want to pair to a set of Royce. Even including UK delivery it comes a lot cheaper than buying in the UK

  • Looking to build a non-ridiculous wheelset to subsititute for my 60mm Jets on the look. Requirements are: wide rim, not crabon and not heavy. My intention is to use these wheels for hilly/multi-day rides/taking abroad.

    My current thinking is:

    Rims: BHS C22w Clincher - 22mm Deep - 24mm Wide - 440 grams rims
    Rear Hub: UL190 UltraLight - 191 Grams - 24 Holes 16:8 - Black
    Front Hub: SLF71W: SuperLight Wide - 71g - 16, 18, 20, 24h - 20 Holes
    CX Ray Spokes
    Sapim aluminium polyax nipples

Should come out to be $300 before postage and import duty so with the exchange rates as cheap as they are not bad price.

My question is, the 16:8 spoke pattern. Is this a good idea in practice? I like the idea of having equal spoke tension NDS to DS, but I've never built a wheel this way.

For reference, I weigh between 68-74kg depending on the time of year.

  • 11 is actually interesting, as it's cross compatible between brands...

Evidence that 11 speed is at (beyond) the limit of what is practical with 130mm OLD, rather than Campag/Shim/SRAM doing us a favour?
