  • He'll probably win his weight category too, as he'll be, for once, in the lightweight division.

  • Depends who turns up I guess. Marko Baloh raced it the year before last and he has the indoor and outdoor world records for 24hr.

  • Actual pro triathletes are pretty good with aerodynamics. I don't know what level the wind tunnel testing peters out at but the top end are in tunnels and have a lot of the right gear in the right places.

  • It's almost like their performance director based their knowledge solely off the contents of LFGSS...

  • I knew there was a reason for going to the US!

  • @dan

All that money on wheels etc ... and you get: normal helmets, hybrid height clips ons, baggy jerseys, road bikes. Weird.

    Hey! I resemble that remark...

Apart from the wheels. I still have shit wheels.

  • An 18 mile loop and a 4 mile finishing circuit.

    Much laps.

  • An 18 mile loop

Hippy trained for this by doing a load of 20 mile laps in the Newbury 12

  • Good luck Stu. How has training been going?

  • So many boredom. Such meh. But at least it's flat so it should be fast. Gonna try and PB it.

  • I find 12s hurt too much to get bored of the laps you're doing. I'd almost prefer laps because I don't have to worry about getting lost taking wrong turns, etc.

  • Well, I have been training which is a start considering I hated bikes for a while there. I'm hitting my power targets for intervals and duration targets for long rides (though power is a bit down on those - might have something to do with spending all day Saturday on the piss the last one).

It should be easier to ride the US course at steady state because it's flatter than both UK courses and there should be less wind. But it's going to be darker longer which might slow me down a bit and I'm looking for another light to take as a spare - I usually borrow Tom or James' but I want a smaller one and I'll give it to gf for her commuter afterwards.

I'll have a slightly faster bike setup than I did at Mersey last year but I'm not sure if I will be able to take my aero lid - might not fit in bike box and not sure what else I'll need to have in hand luggage.

Bit worried about my bike along with all my potions and powders and US customs! Also about pissing off the bike in the US. They don't seem to mind killing each other but nudity seems to get their knickers in a twist and I don't want to be arrested in a skin suit because I had my cock out. :)

Don't know what else might be different but I guess that makes it more interesting. Oh, it's a mass start, no 1min intervals so there could be carnage at the start with everyone being a bit too keen.

  • Corima discs have to be sent back to the factory to be converted to track.

  • thanks man

  • is it any shimano hub disc that can be converted or just specific ones?

  • I believer it's HB-M756 that uses a 10mm axle at the front (most fronts would use 9mm). This allows you to swap in the wider rear 10mm axle.

I think Velosolo sell them pre-converted too.

  • The Deore M525 will work too.

  • The 756 is well worth the extra £3 though.

  • sorry was taking about converting a disc wheel not a disc hub.

  • The Pro disc can be converted with one of those Surly whatsits or the eBay equivalent, dunno about others. Zipp have their own axle conversion as they come with track threads already on.

  • is it any shimano hub disc that can be converted or just specific ones?

The Fixxer or Walker Brothers' copy fits any actual Shimano hubs from about 6400 generation up to 6700 generation, apart from most DuraAce and some cheap hubs you'd never see in the aftermarket. If it doesn't have an M10 axle, it probably won't work, so the new generation wheels (6800, WH-RS81 etc) are out. If the freehub isn't actually made by Shimano, it won't work either, the method of taking drive from the rotor to the hub shell will be wrong.

  • I'd keep trawling eBay for a half decent track disc if i were you, you've got ages to find one before the season starts!
