Amazing indeed, but I'll have to get by with a normal cog for now since this is a low budget operation. I'm moving to a new town with loads of trails, and I figured this would be the cheapest way to have fun on the trails. I might get the fancy stuff later, but for now this will have to do.
Would this be a better option for the chain tensioner?

That url's incomplete.
The zinger type is better than the doofer type because you get adjustable sprung tension and chain wrap. You get loads of wrap with the unsprung roller type, but I've not used one - they're probably ok with a ss specific ring.
Superstar are really cheap. I paid £40+ for that zinger thing with different logo on it :(

Oops, I meant the Zinger. That combined with a narrow-wide chain-ring should do the trick? Or would I still need a front-derailleur style chain guide?

Sorted. No need for the chain guide.
Happy bushwhacking!

got 1/8 on 3/32 and I think that might be the reason i've dropped the chain a couple of times.
Yup.
I even managed to snap a 1/8 chain on a fixed 3/32 drivetrain due to whip skidding.

speaking of tensioners, there's a surly singleator I've no use for kicking around if anyone wants one. Up-spring type for maximum chain wrap

I got one of those. It works.

'He'...
Got lots of complimentary comments racing yesterday... Especially from the 8 year old girls.
Yep, fork is fugly. Waiting to see if I can destroy it this season before thinking about upgrading.
For all its issues, the old Tricross was the cheapest, lightest option with track ends and canti-brake bosses.
{Yes, I am replying to very old comments about my bike.}

@umop3pisdn if you're interested the 2015 Arkrose has a SS version. Tension is via the bb.
Check p3 of this thread for deets of unofficial frameset-only availability.

mmm, seen that and it's currently in the lead. I'd probably change the rear wheel out for a mtb freewheel so I could put a track sprocket on for road use.
