Hard to say. The front on my commuter is still going strong after two years all year riding, mind you with a lots of cuts now but never punctured. Quick calc suggests thats approx 7000 miles.
Rear I have replaced once and probably around half way through it. So lets say 4000-5000 miles. Only flatted once too. Mind you, I don't skid and I only weigh 70kg.

I had my first p****re on my 4000s of the year on ROTFL.
I smiled. -

Am I missing anything? But these seem quite good value for entry level/training wide rims

Bit porky but good or bad?

I've heard that their build quality can be a bit variable, but probably worth a punt at that price.
-
• #3881
Build quality, hmm. Probably nothing 5 minutes with a spoke key couldn't sort.
-
• #3882
I'd go for it. Even if you didn't get on with them and had to sell on, you could probably recoup a fair bit. Does the claimed weight include the steel QRs? You could replace those with some Ti.
-
• #3883
No idea if the weights include skewers.
I'm guessing they are the first gen all alloy rims as the 3T site only lists carbon/alloy versions.Still, they have got to roll better than the £70 rs501 wheelset I'm using now.

Are you looking for 11sp?
If not, 1655g and 38mm rim:

No elevensees. Just 10 speed.
Those linked wheels look nearly identical to the 3t, apart from sapim spokes and stickers. Wonder if the rim is the same.
Edit: Can't see any rim width specs.
I am specifically after a ~£200, wide and alloy 10 speed wheel set.

For £200 it's worth a punt. I was going to buy a pair on sale for a similar price a while back when there were less wide rim options.

My wheel dilema - superstar pacenti SL23 on superstar hubs, or spokesman archetypes on novatec. Any thoughts which people would go for? I need the 11 speed and like the sound of wider rims, otherwise open to suggestions

A near-new Shimano RS81 C24 wheelset is being offered to me for £240.
Good deal?
-
• #3889
Pacenti have a worrying habit of pulling apart at low spoke counts. My friend Neil has had 3 rims replaced under warranty now, as his spokes keep ripping though the rim. I was tempted by the Superstars too, but haven't been able to get them to confirm a spoke lacing thusfar. I'm a good 10kg lighter than him, but would still like a 28 rear with that knowledge.
No comment on the Superstar hubs, wouldn't be surprised if they are Novatec, or at least made in the same place.

If it's in as-new condition, then yes. Very good.
-
• #3891
I think either here or in the wheelbuilding thread @ugosantalucia mentioned that the rims aren't strong enough to deal with the super low spoke count, so eventually they go out of true but you can't true them back, that said, when that does happen they could be built into deep chinese carbon?
-
• #3892
Just having a quick look on the net now and there's a lot of good feedback on them, even when bought at RRP.
Thing is, I'll most likely continue to use my RS10 set until the spring when Tri (sorry) and other events start picking up, at which point there may well be better options by then... #potentialbuyer

BHS has some new wide rims in. A 30mm and 22mm deep IIRC.
The 30mm might be a good option for low spoke counts if you can be faffed to wait for Flos. Shame the 22mm doesn't come in silver.
It says on the site that he'll be getting non machined ones for disc wheels.... Which should also make a good choice for fixed wheelsets.

A near-new Shimano RS81 C24 wheelset is being offered to me for £240.
Good deal? The seller included a new Ultegra cassette with the wheelset.
Pleased with that :) -
• #3895
Considering putting together a road disc bike and i've no idea about road-ready disc wheelsets, is there any I should be looking at? Something with rims to take 25-32c tyres really - this will be for commute, audax, light-touring. Looking really around the 105 equivalent, I guess no more than £200, ideally half that.
-
• #3896
The generic budget answer is Novatec hubs on Kinlin rims
-
• #3897
The Planet X disc wheelset would do the job, they're £200.
-
• #3898
I'd taken a look at those and a few of the other px/on-one sets but wasn't sure about the range of tyre sizes they take. They say 25mm width, I assume external, but no real idea of what they can take, if they start at 28c that should be fine.
-
• #3899
I'm very happy with my Shimano RX31 wheels rated for 25-38mm tyres.
-
• #3900
Seeing as people have been racing cross on narrow rims since forever I'm sure that a rim with an external width of 25 will be absolutely fine with anything up to 32-35.
15 gp4000s!
That's some serious loyalty! What kind of mileage do you get from them out of interest?
