@fussballclub German tyres have always been poorly made. They just aren't very good at quality control.

Why were you running 23mm tyres on 25mm rims @fussballclub ?
I've found 25-on-25mm fine, but ^this is bound to mess with the widewall Struktur.

Smaller tyres = more prone to puncture. FACT.
-
• #3855
Is 650b more prone to punctures than 700c then?
-
• #3856
Smaller or narrower?

Pedant, the pairs of youse.

What do you mean? More information. HED approves 23mm; but I am now thinking this way as well very concerned that I might have not spotted the damage due to the rim design.

Multiquote etc.
Not educated to differential diagnosis level.

23mm tyres were designed for rims 5mm narrower. I just wonder if messing with the designed profile of the tyre has any unforeseen consequences.
It's academic though. Shit happens.

What I was thinking exactly: are these tyres made for the wide rims in real life? Will try a 25 mm. Meanwhile which direction did you mount a Four Seasons again?

23mm tyres were designed for rims 5mm narrower.
The Bontrager AW2/3 address this by having a wider profile with a tiny sidewall;
The downside is that it's even more difficult mounting it on the rims.

HED approves 23mm
For aerodynamic prowess, rather than durability I gather.

Right - I'm going to have a crack at building a some winter wheels so I don't have to worry about rim wear.
Yes - I could buy some R501s or some such, but I've fancied having a go and can borrow a truing stand and (hopefully) a tension meter from a friend.
I'm probably going to go for 32h Open Pro. Are there any options for a hub with a steel freehub body? I tend to wreck alu hubs by mashing away and then can't get the cassette off.
I've got a set of wheels with Hope hubs with a steel body at the moment, but it's not economical to buy a Hope hub and then replace the hub body at £60. Trying to do this on a reasonable budget.
Mods - move to the wheelbuilding thread if you want. I couldn't find it and this is where the cool wheel guys hang out.

Why not get the Shimano 105 hubs? they're very reliable and have a steel freebody.
I tend to wreck alu hubs by mashing away and then can't get the cassette off.
Did you grease the body and use cassette with alu sprocket carrier?
Cheap cassette will eat up the alu freebody quickly.
-
• #3866
I was thinking something like 105 but this says the freehub body is alu...

The 5800 doesn't say.

Can you give me an example of a cassette with an alu sprocket carrier please?

The hub shell is made of alu, the freehub body is steel.
Can you give me an example of a cassette with an alu sprocket carrier please?
instead of rivet holding each sprocket, it held together by an alu carrier which distributed the force better;

Ahhh I see. Thanks very much. 105 it is then.

Continuing my flirtation with RX31s, is jamming a 135 OLN wheel in a steel Charge Filter 130 >OLN frame going to be a PITA?
RX31 fitted no problem, wonder if the dropouts are 132.5 or something.
Look at me with my centrelock rotors.
