  • Particularly happy with the Rival/Force mix on mine too. Runs so snappy.

  • OK - Cannondale Premium slice fork - recessed brake nut. Which one?

SRAM apex front calliper - none of the included recessed bolts fit properly.

The 30mm nut hits a lip towards the front of the for and protrudes about 3mm at the back

The 20mm does not reach the calliper bolt.

Also at the back of the fork there's no recess like on modern carbon forks – it's just flat.

Solutions? Can't seem to easily get a 25mm nut and not sure that would grab enough thread.

going to cross post in mechs and fixin too...

  • Does it have a washer between the caliper and the fork? like this;

With the washer you should be able to use the 30mm nut.

  • That's what I figured - tried 2 washers first but it's the actual nut that wont go though the back of the all the way. It goes in about 27mm so even with 2 washers and the bolt tightened there's still a gap between the flared flange of the recessed nut and the rear face of the fork.

  • Got one of these on Wednesday.

  • There's this 29mm bolt.

I've been running the wrong bolt (ahem) but it's on my list to get the proper one.

  • Brilliant, cheers @Howard

What's the wrong bolt solution? You know, for a short test ride.... (i'm thinking washers on the back of 30mm bolt)

  • Supremely jealous. Lucky man.

  • Yep, makes me feel severely inadequate!

  • Not sure whose, but is amazing.

  • Couple of recent tweeks to my CAAD8: Slight cockpit change (increase to 120mm stem), retaped bars, oh and a P2M Type S

  • Yeah washers on the back of a longer bolt. I think I had a slightly longer than 25mm bolt kicking around too which seemed to grab enough threads, but YMMV.

  • There's a CAAD7/ Capo based track 54cm on eBay atm, jus' saying.
(its a really terrible build, but its there)

  • This thread has inspired me. I'm gonna rescue my 1995 CAD3 M500 from the shed, make it rideable and go for a quick ride on Hampstead Heath. Will post a pic when I'm done

  • CAAD8 r900 finished...
quick ride now reveals it to be awesome.
I'll post up a pic later but I'm happy with how it all went. Cheap budget build, sram apex, and everything works first go. Click click click up and down through the gears, front and rear. Will need better wheels after winter.

  • Can't think why have I haven't used this for so long, great fun. The frame is so light and with the P-Bone fork it's really agile. Here's a few pics http://imgur.com/a/9oT2a.
Forgive the ugly chainset and different couloured cables, the bike was in pieces this morning so just used what I had to get it going.

  • The time may have come to sell my Caad10 frameset. I've looked after it since I got it from Amey via this thread - but should I sell, just for completeness I'd like to have an experienced mechanic/ Cannondale guru give it a once-over to confirm all's well.

    Any recommendations in Central/South-East London?

  • There's a gnarly jump up west heath you should look into...

  • @Cupcakes bring it to Micycle islington on Sunday and I can do it for you.

  • @joel_austen

The blue CAAD8 looks excellent. Interesting how your TT is slightly slanted - the one I have is horizontal.

How do you find the DT RR440 wheels/rims? I'm considering those for mine.

    Pics for TT comparison:

  • I'd wager the blue caad8 frame is more recent. It's the model they've riffed on the most, so it's to be expected that side by side with another 8 a couple of differences show up.

  • Cannondale guru = @Howard if not Fitzrovia cycles have enough experience ..

  • Any of the older CAADs have mudguard mounts?

  • Some of the Road Warrior frames did. But I'm guessing you mean the road racing CAAD frames rather than hybrid / touring frames that featured the CAAD label.
