  • So the humbrol enamel will dissolve the plastic bottle, my main plan is to sand the area a little roughly and then paint it.

good idea or yet another useless product?

  • Reminds me of when, as a kid, I spent hours making a model motorbike by cutting up chunks of polystyrene, then painted it with the Humbrol enamels that I had to hand.

It looked amazing when freshly painted.

Only to dissolve to a brightly-coloured resiny lump within a few hours. I was devastated!

  • You do whatever you see fit, ed.

Who knows- the solvent may have no effect at all - I don't know what the bottle is made of, nor what solvents are in the paint you decide to use.

If there is squidgy melting, fumes or explosions, be sure to take photos so that we can all LOL.

  • I double check, the main problem is that the material doesn't allow hobby paint to adhered to it.

  • Put a sticker on it.

  • So the humbrol enamel will dissolve the plastic bottle

    No

the material doesn't allow hobby paint to adhered to it

    Yes.

Bottles are usually polythene, which is pretty robust with regard to solvents, but for much the same chemical reason also pretty immune to having anything stick to it.

  • Just huff the paint and forget about the bottle.

  • Paint the inside of the bottle, then huff it.
If it flakes off it will still be decorative, like a snowglobe.

  • So how do manufacturers pain their bottles? Am assuming it involves magnets.

  • assuming it involves magnets

I think it involves heating rather than magnets, it's easier to stick to polythene with a meltable glue than a solvent glue. A layered foil comprising adhesive/pigment/carrier/releaser is pressed onto the bottle with a hot die, the glue melts where the die pressure is, sticking the pigment to the substrate, the carrier pulls the remaining pigment and glue off the substrate and the releaser pulls away from the die to allow to tape to be moved to a fresh section ready for the next bottle.

  • Okay, what the actual fuck.
Sram S300 chainset. Still the unremovable chainring bolts.
I bought the right tool, and tried again. Two of the bolts came loose under extreme force, the three others are unmovable. Even when clamping the tool down with pliers, or using the help of another person, the chainring nuts just turn. One or two of them may even be completely stripped by now.
I think I'm just gonna drill em out. Any other advice?
What the hell does Sram use as screwlock?

  • If that works as they claim I'm totally sold. Permanently patch a tub without unstitching? Yes please.

  • What the hell does Sram use as screwlock?

Nothing. They do them up super tight and completely dry, so there is a huge amount of friction stopping you from dismantling them. Shimano and Campag are no better in this regard.

  • Drill them out and replace them I say

  • @mdcc_tester : well the two I got out had some green and white stuff crumbling out of the threads. So there is something in there...

@Hovis : replacements are already here. To the drill press!

  • Draw it in Paint

Stickerbomb bike, bottle and said friend.

  • Is this a particularly slack St for a 54sq track frame?

Is it why the bike feels much larger?

  • Yes, it's rubbish.

    Give it to me.

  • does anyone know why the orthodox jews and the muslims are saying prayers to the lee navigation channel today ?
lots of prayer books and hands set for prayer around springfield park and up to tottenham

  • Eh?

  • as i was cycling along the river lee navigation channel today in the vicinity of springfield park and tottenham hale i saw an abnormally large amount orthodox jews and muslims praying in an easterly direction ... or that of the lee navigation channel

    any clearer ?

  • It does look it, can you measure it?

  • Easterly would make sense as the direction of prayer for Muslims (more south east from London) but no idea why they would be praying today as there is no significance that I can recall? Nor why they would be praying with jews too? Perhaps a more localised show of faith/solidarity, I guess Jerusalem would be east(ish) from here too? Did something happen in the local news?
