Turbo Trainer Advice

  • I need a bullet.

My turbos set up in the workroom.

During the horrible 'tour of Sufferlandria' I noticed a 5ltr bottle of white spirits, and a Box of matches on the bench next to me. Got pretty tempting towards the end.

  • I moved from the Computrainer I have next to my bed to the Fluid trainer in the lounge so I could watch Flanders then back to the bedroom. Triathlon?

  • 1 hour a day, simulating hills with the resistance dial and doing intervals is enough.

I'm sure I'd be kicked out if my apartment if I spent 8 hours on the trainer. The neighbours would have me reported for sure!!!

  • ^^did you have a bath in the middle?

  • No and nor did I hoist a short leg up and 'piss off the bike'. Well, not on the carpet, anyway..

  • I've got an old elite turbo that has been sat in the cellar for too long. Pretty basic, but perfectly functional. Anyone want it? Can I tempt you at £30?

I'm interested having just moved into a ground-floor flat (was always concerned about disturbing the neighbours in previous places).

Take it it's easy to get the bike in and out? Any idea of model...or is it reasonably easy to tuck away when not in use?

  • Mr. David Sufferfest just pointed out to me that he has a lot of Norwegian customers.

We have awesome mountains we want to be in shape to ride. But the worst climate in europe to train for them.

  • I feel that a new turbo is required, but don't know much about them. Was thinking of putting about £200 towards one, any pointers? Was thinking a Kurt kinetic rock and roll mk1....?

  • What are you going to use it for, i.e. intervals, steady state sessions?

  • All sorts, not thought that far. Maybe intervals in spring and Autumn and intervals and steady state from Autumn through to spring

I've got a pretty basic elite at the mo and I really dislike the fact it just doesn't move at all. I appreciate that nearly all turbos will be like this of course...

  • I gone got me a kurt kinetic rock and roll on the cheap, and got a riser turntable off Wiggle.

There was no box or instructions - is this how it should be?!

  • Any quiet turbo recommendations?
don't want to annoy my neighbours.

I've heard this one is quite quiet: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/elite-crono-fluid-elastogel-trainer/

  • That'd be great if it really was $10 a month.

I'd still want to do my structured stuff on TrainerRoad.

    Monitoring my progress With TrainingPeaks.

    These Subscriptions Mount up.......

  • I don't like subscriptions, especially when all the data is in someone else's servers.
WKO, one off cost. I do pay a coach though which costs substantially more than TP, etc but he's very good.

  • I like to pay for 12 months up front. Tends to be cheaper too.

I was all set to quit TP. I just wasnt finding the time to add data to it. So it had little value. But the New uploader sorted that. I need trainerRoad, and I need sufferfest vids. The training is just Stock 2x20 etc. Nothing special. But I need Entertainment while I'm doing it, Clear targets, and logged data to look back on.

  • Entertainment? What's wrong with sweat burning your eyes and snot running into your mouth?! That's entertainment!

  • My road machine came with minimal instructions, a boring DVD and an owners warranty card.

Plenty of videos & info on their website though, so you're not missing much :-)

  • Is this 'entertainment' available on a freeview channel?

  • trainer time is my only time in the week I can just sit and listen to the music I want

  • Sorry, it's a Pay-per-View Channel on the TiVo only at this stage. We are looking to expand though so if you know any producers at other networks do please let us know.

  • I can sit and push endurance Level forever.
I can smash 30 second sprint Level intervals forever.

Everything inbetween is just slow leg Death. Unfortunatley its the stuff inbetween I need.

  • Sounds like you could do with a few 10, 25 or even 50 mile TTs.
