  • Ones that came with the Ultegra 6700 group

  • Warped rim?

  • If the pads are old or unused for a bit, or glazed they can get grabby. I don't know if new rims can compound that problem. Just a thought.

  • Check for residue on the rim, clean it with alcohol and give the pads a quick sand with some light sand paper.

Failing that, buy swiss stop pads.

  • According to the internet ,ultra low spoke count plus Shimano's v.high spoke tension s on the ultralight rim can make the braking surface a bit 'wavy' on C24s.

Paolo is on here but I forget his username give us a minute * edit* its @ugosantalucia

I had the wheel checked over by wheelbuilding guru Paolo Coppo (http://paolocoppo.drupalgardens.com/). He found that the spokes were evenly tensioned and the wheel was true, but he when checked with a micrometer, there was a lot of side-to-side movement of the rim between each spoke. He concluded that the rim isn't rigid enough to be supported by such a small number of spokes.

  • dubtap; droppin' knowledge

  • I had a set but never noticed this myself.

  • Thanks for all the info/advice. In the first instance i'll give them a good clean and properly check the pads. If the problem persists where do I stand? Is it a design issue?

  • Is braking really necessary?

  • Not on freewheel bikes, but on fixed bikes you mustn’t stop braking while the wheels are turning or you might go over the handling bars.

  • Whats a fixed biek?

  • Has anyone got a deal on Shimano r501 at the minute?

  • My rear inner tube just exploded earlier this morning, luckily next door in the office while we had a meeting. HED Ardennes Plus. I assume installation error when I changed the tube when I had my first puncture on these three weeks ago? How did it pinch when I had pumped the tube before putting the tyre back on? Any ideas appreciated. This is scary.

  • Check the rim tape

  • That has happened to me because I had Velox rim tape and there was some water inside the tyre that had corroded it.

  • As above... but sometimes pinched butyl just goes.

  • Thank you. Where is hippy?

  • Did I ride into something or is this production error?

  • i had a sidewall blowout with that tyre a few months ago, Mind you the split was circumferential. I blamed installation error, I went at it with tyre levers pretty hard.

Anyways, took it back to lbs and they gave me another and sent the old back to reclaim their dosh from conti

  • On the road? Maybe they are too badly produced for me now. This is not through a cut from road debris then?

  • It was your riding style.

  • Your one looks like a cut from the road to me. Mine blew out whilst rolling away from some lights at very slow mph so not catastrophic thankfully. Like I said, I think mine was because I was a muppet with my tyre levers. I've used those levers for poking and scraping against things in the past so their tips are quite sharp now. I was an idiot to use them.

Gone through about 15 gp4000s tyres and never had a failure so I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that they are badly produced.

  • A cut from the middle of the tread out to the sidewall?

Looks like the kind of thing you'd get from leaning
