• Remember my Dalsnibba data? 60/40 power split.

  • Wonky legs >>>>

    ;)

  • I'm curious; did you suspect this before you tested it?

Outside of the extremes—which I think yours counts as!—it seems power balance is completely useless.

  • Fair enough. Sounds like it's been thoroughly tested.

At some point I'd like to build a better fixed gear. I'd want power on that. I like training on the fixed, and fancied a pt.

    That'd be next year though.

  • rear wheel speed on the turbo or rollers

Eh? That's always been completely meaningless number unless somehow you can guarantee constant resistance over any time period (ie. impossible). And now it's completely useless number too as you have far more accurate power data!

(The GSC-10 sensor with a P2M is still 1% useful with for rear-wheel speed outside as it means you aren't relying on GPS speed.. useful within Limehouse link tunnel!)

No, I didn't suspect, and afterward I simply adjusted my saddle height until I hit 50/50.

So, I found a use for L/R balance - a really expensive method for checking your saddle height is correct.

  • Isn't wheel speed better than GPS speed?

    I have a p2m and a speed sender.

  • @lamby
Same tyre, same psi, same rollers, same turbo- seems reasonably consistent. Especially given I usually use rollers. That combined with power, hr and cadence means it's not a useless metric.

  • Except everything heats up. And you have gears. And now you have power.. (!)

Never will understand why people think turbo speee/distance is a thing.

  • 219w FTP with 332W 1 min peak to being with is good/bad/shite?

    No wonky legs 50.2/49.8 balance.

  • Its not spectacular. But it depends on what you weigh amd what you're training for. Use the charts in the Coggan book to do your power profile based on w/kg. It will give you a much better idea where you stand and what you need to improve on to do well in different events.

However if you're training for crits - 323w is not great 1 min power. You've got all winter to work on that though.

  • Also, what is that data from? Just a nice ride after work, a race or a testing protocol?

  • 3 laps of richmond after work; I weight 67.8kg atm ..

    First outing with powermeter too

  • Based on that your ftp is in the lower realms of 'moderate' (cat IV) but your 1 min power is worse than 'untrained'.
Are you sure 332 is your 1 min power and not your 5 min?

But either way, basing a profile on one evening ride is retarded. You've read half the book so you should have a pretty decent idea how to collect it and analyse it by now.

  • FWIW I've also found that my estimated FTP (done using a proper testing protocol) is way lower than estimates gained from racing.

No point comparing power to other people, it's just depressing. Tracking your own progress through time is much more informative.

  • ^ this. It's a training tool, not a dick measuring device.

I get much higher numbers generally from racing - especially at the track where I can't see a screen :)

Not surprisingly - my best numbers this year for:
5s power - standing starts in team sprint or jump in flying 200m
1 min power - attacking in a Keirin
5 min power - Scratch race
    20 min power - 10 mile TT
60 min power - climbing the Malaucène side of Ventoux

I've been using a power meter since May and I still feel like I'm only just starting to build up a decent set of numbers.

  • Turns out the wheel already had batteries in it so no rush on this now.

Has another problem though - the freehub is so sticky/tight that it doesn't freewheel properly. I'm hoping it just needs some lube on one of the seals or something.

  • I had that problem, took freehub off, looked at it. Put it back on. Fixed. #magic #servicecourse

Might be missing a pawl or something.

  • Yeah I know; I am/was just excited by all the data ;)

I am glad I got P2M instead of aero wheels.

  • I think I still have two copies of this so if someone is looking for one?

    LFGSS training library..

  • It's another number to stare at. If I'm just ticking over then I'll pick random numbers to hit. Like "keep going until 1000 calories, oh you're on 39k, keep going until 40k"

But yeah, I don't actually "use" either value. Neither do I use it on the road though to be fair.

  • o rly?

Could be keen .. I dont generally 'read' (this would be the first book I've ever read in my life lol) and I find kindle not very useful for bookmarking .. can I collect from somewhere central?

  • 332W FTP and 219W 1 day power isn't bad.

    Oh..

  • One ride? One training ride? Values are basically meaningless then. Try again.

  • What happened to your hed's?
