  • Condor hill climb machine finished. got a full carbon fork for cheap, and lovely dura ace 7410 crankset. I need to find some decent scales, but going by what I've got its just a touch under 6kg.

  • What stem and seat post?

  • Post is a USE alien, stem is a Thomson x2, not the lightest in the world but I'm struggling to find anything that will get me a decent weight saving for not too much money.

  • really like the look of the Pretorius Outeniqua Disc .... if only it was cheaper :)

  • ^^search kalloy uno on ebay, comes up with loads of 100gram stems, you'll save 40grams ish and probably make money if you sell the x2

  • Cheers for that, found a 110g one for fifteen quid. Hopefully it wont flex too much!

  • It started out as a Transition Bikes Rapture..

  • he's definitely cheaper!

Yes, although that's not entirely why I rather buy it from him, it's mostly his work I like.. A couple of friends have custom frames done by him, and they're top notch!

That's a fine daily bike you got, wish mine was that good!

  • 'Comparable with 23 or 25mm brakes. 23 if using mudguards.'

    Right. How ducking stupid.

  • My current project is to ride the beautiful roads of Corrèze

  • I'm split on my next project. I'm probably going to sell my Cielo custom 29er and use the funds to build a bike I'm more comfortable with leaving around London. Something to commute on, and this would either be what I want or what I need.

What I want: An NJS fixed thing.
What I need: A beater tourer for commuting through the dark and wet winters, with racks and mudguards.

Need is probably going to win, currently thinking about audax bikes suitable for this.

I'm basically going to try and build the equivalent of my Robin Mather at a tenth of the cost. Not quite sure where to start on it, the entire cost must come in below whatever I can get for the Cielo 29er.

  • Inb4 Genesis CdF

  • What size you ride @Velocio ? 56 ?

  • Is that a recommendation?

The shortlist for an OTP would be:

    • Thorn Audax
    • Spa Cycles Audax
    • Genesis CdF
    • Ribble Audax/Winter
    • Surly Trucker
  • I usually ride a 60.1cm frame, would be good for 58-60cm.

  • Previous miche primato seatpost was bit too short. On longer rides I felt need to extend leg more, which caused discomfort in my knees.
After forum advice went for black seatpost. On one twelfty for 10 quid at PX was bargain I could not pass. Not really into inline'ish look, but it does the job well.

  • Pix of the Cielo? GF's Dad has the Spa Cycles Audax Ti, loves it.

  • looks great. silver clamp/headset/hubs work well

  • found an eddy merckx with full panto campagnolo sr under a tarpaulin in a garden the other night (legitimately)
frame too big, like a 61cm or close so will shift, has chrome triangle, but some stays look badly corroded, may have to replace if possible

  • Photos of the Cielo when new (March 2012) are here: https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/200469/?offset=100#8624606

It's got a few chips since then, a little rubbed paint on the inside of the chain stay, a few of the bolts are rusty from rain and winters.

It's freaking beautiful to ride, so much fun.

But... I ride off-road for a few months during the year, only at the weekend... and I'd rather be riding daily, all year round, so have to solve the need for a "cheap/beater commuter" and this is the only bike I'm willing to let go of.

  • That's beautiful. Get it down to Swinley before you move it on.

  • Fancy Samson NJS?

  • doit.jpg

  • I haven't really taken to riding this around town, so I though I might as well put it in a half-serious track mode.

    few more photos here
