Good deal, not so outrageous as to suspect foul play.

Is £1k the absolute top? If you could stretch just a little further, I think the Nomos Tangente 33 is a really nice smaller modern watch that is not too flashy but really nice.

I've found a way into Yahoo auctions Japan. This is a bad thing. I've now picked up 2 vintage Grand Seikos.

I'll have a look, thanks! Budget is slightly negotiable, especially if other relatives chip in for the present too..

Any suggestions for good places in central London to look at second hand watches for around £400/500? Thanks in advance

Austin Kaye on The Strand always has loads. Quite a few Hatton Garden way too.

Austin Kaye and anywhere in Hatton Garden you'll pay a premium and you won't get a great deal for that budget. If I had 400 / 500 for a watch I'd buy on eBay from a trusted seller and keep 100 back for a service.

Or buy a Steinhart ;)

I may buy an Ocean Black... #everythingblack
Didn't someone here have one? What's the PVD like?
-
• #13745
I think the PVD on the Ocean Black is legit

The PVD's do come up on eBay every now and then.
The trick is to go on German eBay and ask the guys to post to UK - loads more Steinhart choice. Most will do it, some won't and all the Germans communicate in perfect English too.

I was in Amsterdam over the weekend and ended up in a fairly swish watch shop with airlock doors etc. Whilst we were in there browsing an incredible array of rare vintage watches a thunderstorm rolled in so the owner came over, offered us drinks and engaged us in a half hour long conversation about our all time favourite watches even though he knew we weren't there to buy. Having said that, if I'd had a couple of pints there were certainly a few watches I would have splurged on.
Anyway, during the course of the conversation he removed one of these from his wrist and opened the back for us. Ignore what it looks like and what it does. Just imagine what the movement looked like.

Or was it the planetarium model? Fucked if I can remember. Either way. The movement looked the bollocks.

Yup, just like that... Bit of a looker, ETA movement, job done... Shame it's cyclops free...
