I first saw this on-line and picked up the Guardian paper copy today. To my surprise, it was the leading story on the front page. I can only assume that they consider it emblematic of a return to upstairs/downstairs, masters/servants separate entrances. You're obviously right that it's only a small story compared to the very big problems we have, but I found it interesting enough, having commented on a lot of planning applications. -

It's a little more telling when viewed in the context of somewhere like Heygate Estate though, which is by no means an exceptional example.
