  • Thank you Mr. Schick - I'll add them to my list of places to check out!

  • Anyone got any tips on place to get a quick bite to eat either near Kings Cross or by the Southbank Centre that's vegan friendly?

    Cheers!

i think wahaca on waterloo rd opposite the station has a vegan menu...

  • Which of the tapas places near Waterloo is meant to be the better one? I always forget.

Any recommendations for places to eat of any kind around there welcome, particularly places where they won't growl at us too much for having a cello in tow...

  • There are two good ones, Meson Don Felipe on The Cut, but space is at a premium there, or Mar i Terra on Gambia St which has a bit more room.

Personally I prefer the food in Mar i Terra but it's a close call.

Another option, but it might be a bit pricey, is Baltic on Blackfriars Road. Excellent food and lots of space.

  • Heh, thanks - I didn't see this in time but we walked past Meson Don Felipe because it was packed and on to Mar i Terra, where it was beautifully calm and the food was delicious. So full. En route my brother informed me we were near his favourite restaurant Baltic, so your post was pretty much the conversation we had tonight :D

  • Curry anyone?

This place opened recently on Westow Hill, Crystal Palace. They are so good, they deserve a plug. If you fancy a curry and you're south, come here. The Fish is all amazing, You can tell everything is fresh, the tastes are distinct and intense.

Was looking for something like that. Think I'll wander over tomorrow night.

  • Went to Homeslice in Covent Garden for lunch today. Really good pizza, the best I have had in a long time.

  • Need a semi-posh iconic eatery for an early evening meal not a massive distance from the Tower of London for Saturday 16th.

Entertaining a couple of murican relatives and will have wife, child and infant son with me.

Thinking Rules or OXO tower, but suggestions most gratefully received as I'm out of practice with London eateries!

  • Oxo or pont De La tour.

  • The Shard, Sangri La?

  • Duck and Waffle will be slightly more child friendly I'd say.

  • My wife and I had a great meal at The Riverside Vegetaria in Kingston. The organic spicy Jamaican stew is worth checking out

  • Duck and Waffle will be slightly more child friendly I'd say.

Very much this... great views, nice food.

The glass elevator up is great too

  • Thanks guys!

  • Looking for somewhere nice to take our lass for her birthday.
Would ideally go to Spring at Somerset house (Skye Gyngell), but they are fully booked.

Anyone got any recommendations for somewhere a bit special, but not super super ££

In going with your spring theme and not 'that' pricey

  • Quality Chop House
    Lunch at Hibiscus
    Clove Club

  • Also good dredge!

  • Gymkhana
    Honey & Co
    St John Bread & Wine

  • +1 for Quality Chophouse

  • Ooh yeah gymkhana. Can be busy right now due to such great reviews

  • Need help... run out of ideas!

Wifes Birthday next weekend. Hadn't booked restaurant because I was planning a weekend away - until I realised passport has been sent off for a visa application. oops.

Cool story over, are there any nice places with good food and a good atmosphere that stand out at the moment? (have checked out a few of the above links). Have eaten at quite a few places over the past couple of years so finding new ones is hard! Can be expensive michelin place or just plain delicious place.

Was even considering Oblix in the shard just because view/bar touristy factor may be fun?

  • I went on a freebie to oblix. Thoroughly underwhelming experience.

Not sure how easy it is to get a table these days but Ametsa or dinner by Heston would be on my hit list.

  • Ametsa looks faaaaaaaaaaaaakin' laaaaaaaaaaarvely

  • Did Hutong in the Shard a while ago - if you get lucky with the weather, the view is awesome and worth the price of the meal. The food entirely competent but no more than that.
