Heads up - some kids (teenagers/young adults?) tried (piss poorly) to pull me off my bike last night at the top of Shakespeare Road around 1:30am. Group of four. First two walked into the street from the left as two of us approached - "hey, let us have a go on your bike" "nope." Get by them the other two have also moved into the street. My riding partner is on the far right, I'm in the middle. One of them gets his hand on my arm but I just ride on and the grip is lost. Never had any problems there before - ridden and walked up and down it dozens and dozens of times at all hours of day and night. Pretty happy I wasn't walking, actually.

I'm moving to Herne Hill soon... is there a park in the area with a quiet inner ring road (in the vein of Regent's park) or similar super-quiet set of roads with minimal traffic lights?

It would be nice to have somewhere nearby where you can smash out laps for an hour or so first thing in the morning in the peace and quiet. I do that in Regent's Park at the moment before work (currently living in Hackney) and although it's a bit mind-numbing, I'll miss it.

I guarantee you now that my next crash will involve Dulwich Park, a dopey weimeraner charging out of the bushes after a tennis ball launched by the wife of managing director out for her morning walkies with Fenton, the girls from the bridge club and their gaggle of demented dachshunds and highland terriers.

I practically tip-toe though there every morning with my fingers hovering over the brakes nervously scanning the shrubbery for dim-witted over-excited labradors charging across the path with their scattered attention directed anywhere but where they're going.

As for the OP question, you could even ride around the edge of brockwell park - bikes are allowed and it's less busy then Dulwich park.

Nothing remotely like regents or Richmond though.
