Just been down to Vaz today, His brother is doing some work on a frame and then gonna have it repayed. They both really helpful and professional and have loads of of experience. Mario working for Holdsworth since the 60's and Winston (builder) 27 years working for Roberts' top frame builder'.

-
• #482
Ah, what error do you get?
Paint wise he did an amazing job.
However he left air bubbles under the stickers -
• #483
i didn't see any other pictures..... were they vinyl cut or water slide decals?

Try this URL, not sure where I got that one from:

There are more pictures.
I think he sources them from H LLoyd Cycles and I think they are vinyl cut?

shame about the decals, but the paint looks very nice. i guess you can't really complain for a £110 paint job.
-
• #487
In fact, even though I was planning to at least give him a call, I decided it's not worth it.
The price was more than fair (compared to the higher price of Mercian for example) and fixing the bubble issue would have meant re-do the job all over again which would have been a real shame and cost for him (which I find a nice man). This morning I put up some of the components that have arrived yesterday (thus the picture in the flickr album), but already forgot about them. The paint job is just too nicely done and the flamboyant is very attractive (hopefully it won't attract thieves as well!)

I just spoke with Mario on the phone (regarding BB shell thread gone, not the paint) and he told me that the bubbles are actually due to the decals being not original but from L Loyds and that he can't do anything about them as they appear during the heating process.
I am still happy about his work and will bring him any future frame I'd like to have re painted. -

BB shell thread gone?
-
• #490
that's quite major
-
• #491
Ream the shell and recut Italian thread?
-
• #492
when you take a frame in to get painted, you would not imagine you would need to re-cut it to Italian thread after......
i would be pissed.
-
• #493
Wait. He didn't do it. I might have done it.
It can be fixed, Argos does ream them off puts a threaded piece in and either braze it or glue it to the internal side of the shell.
Or I can go threadless
-
• #494
I called him because his brother (who worked for Chas) does frame repairs :)
Sorry for the confusion!
-
• #495
oh, so he didnt damage the BB shell...... that's good to know. will be dropping some frames off with him soon.
-
• #496
Bring them to him with confidence
The paint job on my frame is very nice. -
• #497
Regarding re threading Italian shell. Wouldn't that make the BB shell thinner and thus possibly compromise its integrity?
-
• #498
Can you not stick a pin in the bubbles and squidge the air out?
-
• #499
ITA BB are 36mm diameter: the cups will be too large for the shell.

There's lacquer on top. Afraid it'd start to break away...but I really don't mind it. I can see it only up close
His 'repair guy' is his brother.
