  • ITA BB are 36mm diameter: the cups will be too large for the shell.

No expert at all. I read that people did this kind of tricks. Maybe not with 68mm shells?

  • Must agree with Skully- Mario and his brother do a awesome job if you are accurate at what you want.

  • One day I'll go fixed and undrilled too, looks so clean

  • One day I'll go fixed and undrilled too, looks so clean

    Do it!:)

    How's your Holdsworth holding up?

  • Just rode it to work today!

Got the wheel back yesterday (loose spindle) and a GA rear skewer in the post.
So finally I have a Shimano Golden Arrow wheelset (albeit not in great conditions, but more than fine.)

Put everything on yesterday and calibrated the brakes and gears.
It's only missing the front GA skewer.

Waiting for a proper weather to do a photo shoot.

The ride has been fantastic and smooth, but didn't put it just yet. Need to bring it to Richmond Park at one point to test the threadless BB up hill (I fear I might have not tighten it up enough, so need to verity that.)

Will also probably get some Koolstop pads and need to ask people here on the forum a question regarding the rear wheel setup I have.
Will do in my own thread :)

    Thanks for asking!

God that looks good... amazing build... and yes, makes me want to ride no brakes too as it looks daft clean.
Need to sort my cafe racer out proper... its a state atm....

  • Does Mario do powder coating now?

What kind of money is he charging for an enamel job these days?

  • I don't think he does powder coating. You should ask him directly though.

He did lacquer mine and I paid bit over £100 decals included.
Again, better to call him and ask for a quote.

  • Thought i'd put some of Winston Vaz(Mario's brothers) work in here as well.

The Denti had a crack in one of the seatstrays, so needed to replace both the strays as it was impossible to find a matching counterpart, get the dropouts in place and a new bridge. I must say now after a week ridding just to make sure everything is right, I'm very happy with the work he did and Mario's paint job! But think i knew this before as they have both been doing this for a long time.

Winston can also build you a custom frame at a very reasonable price. Might think of getting one done sometime.

New bridge which he fillet brazed and bent:

New seat strays brazed in at the top very clean:

    Seat strays in place:

The man himself and his jig:

Something he was working on while i was there, steel lugged frame:

  • When did you go there?
I think that frame was on the jig when I went there too and in better looking conditions.

  • About 2 weeks ago, i know he has been working on it for a while. Just thought i'd show people what he can do.

  • so it could be the same i saw. very nice looking one

  • He once replaced some dropouts for me, did a great job and a shockingly low price.

  • Winston knows his cookies, he worked at Roberts for about 20 years

  • 27 years he told me, and he worked on one of the frames that Roberts had on display at Bespoke. You can have a Roberts frame without the high price tag.

  • Exactly. I got 17 but I'm no english man so might have very well misunderstood

Would love to ask him for a bespoke frame now that he can't afford to ask much more, but as soon as he gains a name he'll surely charge more I guess

  • Just been to see Mario and Winston, never met them before but for me TOP DRAW blokes. I was a great friend of one of Marios friends the great W.B.Hurlow (master frame builder RIP) i have been connected with cycling for 55yrs and know that the repairs and paint job are going to be 1st class. Two really nice great guys, and if anybody out there is wanting a top class steel frame, Winston is your man. When i get the frame from Mario and Winston i will post pictures, i got it some while back it is a YOUNGS of Lewisham early 60s frame their top model at the tiime the "TROPHY" with fancy lug work.

  • He has a co-operative business he can send your stuff to for powdercoating. Done a few things for me, no complaints and a quick turnaround too. Frame was £60.

    Enamel jobs start at £75

  • I will contact him soon to have my Hugh Porter painted in simple color no decals. Shame is soo far away from me!

  • Just been sent some pictures by Mario, the YOUNGS frame he has done for me looks STUNNING !! Feel like a kid at Christmas. Also Winston did some work on it, if anybody is thinking of getting a steel frameset ,go to Winston, he is a GREAT builder, and that comes from me who built frames for 23 yrs i stopped several yrs ago, he is TOP DRAW. i will post pictures when i get it home and made up.

  • Let's see the PICS then...

PS Do you have an INTEREST in the business? Only TWO POSTS and both OTT praise.

PPS Who are YOU: "...that comes from me who built frames for 23 yrs..." is MEANINGLESS if we don't know your PEDIGREE.

  • Vaz did my tandem. It looks much nicer now. Would go to (and will be going to) again.

    Before:

    After:

  • I built frames for many club riders in Norfolk, Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire and Leicestershire. I built the frame for Terry Wright cycles in 1981 for John French who came third in the National 25 and he won the National 50. Peter Dorling of the Wisbech CC won many National Vets awards on one of mine. Gary Empson rode one to become the first man to break the hour for riding a 30 mile Time Trial in 59mins 56 secs. What have you actually done? I only give praise where it is deserved and i certainly have not gone OTT over Mario and his Brother. Just trying to help others who are perhaps looking to buy a frame or get one repainted.

  • Surely you have to admit you do sound a bit dodgy with your over exciting first two post praising them?

  • It's a good job he put the forks on the right way around. And I still think that the rear seat tube decal is just wrong. :)
