Just read up on it: something to do with Ric copywriting the design of their bass and the forum receiving a legal letter from John Hall.

Yep, it's not so much the forum doing anything wrong or it being against copyright law to sell them on the forum - it's that there are a lot of fake Ricks about & when someone tries to sell them on the forum that then means the forum marketplace is selling counterfeit goods then that's when all the snidey letters come out. So it's easier for them to say no to all of them & not have to fork out for solicitors to respond to the letters.
All pretty stupid if you ask me but then I've never bought the design of something so don't have to deal with outdated copyright laws (in this regard anyway, unfortunately I do have to deal with copyright every day).

Sorry, only just seen this. I think TFT are still going but the chaps tend to focus on other stuff AFAIK.
The Rusty Box, yes I'd love to have a go on one of those! It might be worth having a scan of the Electrical Audio forum - there are plenty of English people on that board, many of whom will be Shellac fanboys - you never know, there might be a friendly Londoner who has one they'd be willing to let you try.
For that clanky, not too dirty bass sound I'm really pleased with my Tech 21 VT Bass - sounds great straight into a power amp!
Also heard about a boutique pedal company called Fuzzrocious for the first time this week, they have some interesting-looking pedals.
I found a darkglass microtubes b7k on denmark street and it sounds amazing so went for it. I'm rehearsing tomorrow so can give it a proper high volume test but its exactly what I was after, massive bottom end but much more clarity at the top end and a really fat overdrive.
Those fuzzrocious pedals look great, I'd like to try the grey statche. Really like that they build in extra functions as added extras, if you just want the basic pedal they're actually quite cheap as far as handmade pedals go.

Anyone use one of those micro amps for pissing about at home? I think I'm gonna try one of the Orange Micro Crushes a go next time I'm in town.

I had one for a while, not a microcrush but one of the Roland ones - same solid state tech though. I thought they were pretty horrible, as all the solid state stuff is - no sense of dynamics, if you play quiet, if you play loud, it all comes out at the same volume and distortion.
In the end I built a small 1W valve combo, works a million times better and is actually useful for recording and the like.

While you're in town try out the Roland Micro Cube. For a few more ££ than the Orange, you get loads of power and effects. Six basic settings, replicating amps Marshall JMP1987, Fender Twin Reverb, Vox AC 30TB for the Liverpool sound, Roland JC 120, MESA/Boogie Rectifier and an 'acoustic' setting. It's loud and clear enough for small outdoor gigs. Then there are the FX: flanger, phaser, chorus, tremolo, and delay/reverb. I recommend it to my students for maximum practising fun. A keen user has put online 'some cool settings for the Roland Micro Cube' to replicate 20 classic tracks. £70 well spent. Now around £100. It is also small enough to fit on my bike rack and fits into an average pannier.

On an even less related, but personally exciting, note is I'm signing up to do a 6-7 week course to build a fuzz pedal from scratch. Haven't wielded a soldering iron for years (and was never particularly good) but this should be FUN.
Update incase anyone's interested:
Finished soldering the PCB on my pedal yesterday, tested it and it works! Just need to wire up the enclosure and it's done.
This is the (very simple) pedal we're building, but there are loads of interesting kits on the site and the instructions are great even for idiots like me. Pretty sure I'm going to buy myself a soldering iron and build some more.

^Woo, you learning it? I got it half down a while ago but stopped, typical me. Lovely piece. Good luck dude!
I'm on a thumbpick kick. Tonight's discov is this….
Bah, embed fail, but click. You'll probably get a 30-sec ad, soz.
Gloss over the fact that it's a tubby Dutch guy in beige casualwear recording into a computer mic… 'tis Ton Van Bergeijk, noted ragtime guitarist of the early '70s and here just generally mucking about at home for a laugh. Some of the slickest shit I've heard since Jerry Reed. Mad.

Whoah. Nice.
I have tuned down to Bb and have got the first 8 bars just about passable... beyond that I'm suffering attention deficit disorder (self diagnosed).
Discovered that the route of my tuning woes on the little Guild were the fault of the capo I was using. Have gone back to a shubb and suddenly I'm not wresting with the tuning between every song. Duhhhh.

Go and see Philippe on Denmark Street, is he still in the basement of the building where Angel Music is?

Yes they're still going - 35 for a set up I think, doubt its beatable on price. Denmark street is always good too the apparently some of the shops need to be avoided.

righto. the reason they're top of the pile is they're less of a ball ache to get to than DMS of a school day - TS's recommendations aren't to be taken lightly - do i get a name drop dingscount?

Actually forget my recommendation, he did a pretty iffy job on my bass now that I recall... Never had a problem with my guitars there tho'...

Bass Gallery got rid of a fretbuzz on my bass a few years ago, not the cheapest but a good job.
